<stereotype>WHAT BIKE SHOULD I BUY?</stereotype>

Yeah yeah I searched but I got bored.

Where'd I put that fire extinguisher? I can feel the flames a-comin'.

Aaaaanyway...

My son's about to turn 10 and he wants "a bike to do tricks on". He's got a 24" wheel 20-something speed bike right now which is OK for riding around the neighborhood, but what he really wants is a BMX-type bike.

However I looked at those videos someone posted in some other thread... "street"... "flatland"... I have no idea. Hell, HE has no idea. He wants to do tricks. He won't know what kind until he sees what makes his friends go "ooooh".

So I'm looking for a nice inexpensive general-purpose BMX bike he can ride for a year or two and learn some tricks on and generally have a good time with. He's like 65 lbs so I'm not REAL concerned with breaking bike parts.

A couple years ago I was in Performance and they had a half dozen or so BMX bikes for just under $200 that didn't look like total crap, but now I'm not so sure... their web site only has 2, one of which is a Mongoose for $200...

Suggestions? Price-wise, the lower the better. I saw some recommendations for the DK 6-pack which is like $300-$350 or so according to a quick google search. I'd prefer something cheaper, unless you all convince me otherwise .

2Hip Forcedown-$239 looks awesome
DK Step-Up-$200
DK General Lee-$230
Hoffman Disrupter EL1-$255
WeThePeople Nova-$240

The only thing is you want to kind of stay away from Hi-Ten steel which isn't as strong as chromoly, but since he's so small it wouldn't matter as much.

Hi ten is also heavier and for a small kid chromoly is a must as far as im concerned.

But for a small child maybe a race bike of some description. because there is nothing worse than having a bike you cant lift. Learning is impossible if you cant lift your bike. And as far as frame size, a biek with a top tube of about 20" or maybe even smaller will be your best bet.

out of the above suggestions i personally for my child would be getting him the DK general lee. Mainly because it has the most chromoly.
