Giant Rhythm Aus (give it a chance)
Now, I have my flameproof suit on even thinking about this but give it a chance....
I'm not gettin my question answered anywhere else so I'll try this. The reason why I am considering this is because I can get it dirt cheap and it has a reasonable spec list. I'm sponsored for road and XC mtb and am missing the fun of a 20" after years off from it. OK, sec list and pics... http://www.giant-bicycle.com/_genera.../rhythm_gx.jpg Features size 20.5” (top tube) users colours Red frame Dirt Jump - Full Cr-mo w/butted head tube drive train 3 Piece Cr-mo 175mm cranks, 33T chain ring, 12T cog pedals VP Alloy Platform wheels 48 spoke alloy hubs cassette rear & Sun Rhyno lite rims tyres Kenda K-Rad 20 x 2.125/1.95 brakes Tektro U-Brakes bar Digital 2. 7.25" Rise. Cr-mo stem Alloy ahead saddle Velo BMX with 8mm steel rails extra SST Gyro Now there are a few standouts, like the 100% 4130 frame, cassette, sealed bearings and rhynolite rims and general OK other parts. If I got it, what should I look at changing (assuming I will break it quickly. I weigh 140 and am hard on equipment)? I plan to use it for some basic flatland and street. I know a DK signal or whatever blah blah would be better for flatland but I want a bit of versatility and like a long top tube on all my bikes (not sure if it carries over to this) plus it looks OK and feels smooth stock. Oh, and what are odyssey jpegs like? Cause I can get these for next to nothin too and will be needin a set for any flatland stuff that I want to do. Flame away. |
According to those specs, it sounds like a decent beginner bike. But Giant really isn't a big fish in the BMX game. I'm sure they make a bunch of bikes, & I know they do stunt shows across the US, but other than that, I couldn't tell you anything about Giants BMX program. Well, except that they sponer a couple of riders as well. Never seen them in a bike shop either.
So that's probably the response you're gonna see. Sounds decent, never seen one. But as you say, you can get it dirt cheap, so that does make it a bit more favorable. And Ody jpegs are just fine. None of this stuff will be the prime flatland set-up, but for just messing around with street riding & basic flat, you'll be fine. -Bill |
i see alot of kids riding giants around here. how much can you get it for? (AUD)

Go for it, it seems pretty decent.

It's exactly like the Hoffman rhythm, and the Norco rhythm. Not to bad of bikes though.

My friends have had Giant bikes before and they destroyed them. I've never seen worse rims in my life.

Well, they weren't sun rhyno lites... but they were Giant wheels.
|
Giant doesn't make their own wheels...
|
Wheels on a Giant... you know what I mean.

|
I think they used to stock Jalco rims
|
Jalco rims suck
|
Giant is the world's largest bicycle manufacturer. I wouldn't be surprised if they made a few other brands that you guys are so in love with.

I'm sure the wheels on the Giant will be just fine, especially if they are Rhyno Lites. |

The one on the back of my purple bike is going fine...

My back rim makes a horrible noise when it hits the ground just on a bunnyhop. I'm scared to actually get the thing in the air.

Your spokes are probably horribly loose then. Try truing your wheel.
|
the prototype giant frames look pretty rad.
