Who owns a Diamondback?

I was wondering who owns a Diamondback. If so, do or did you have any problems with it?

I don't, but the reviews seem to suggest that it's a good bike for a beginner, so it should do you well for a year or so whilst you get the basics learned. My reading suggested that you might want to keep an eye on the brakes, though.

I own one:

I like it pretty good. It's a Viper, which is one of the entry level ones, and if I had the money I'd change a few things on it. But then again, this is a 1999, so that's not relevant. The newer ones (and the more expensive ones) look good.

I thought you sold that?

Don't even get me started on diamondbacks, awful bikes. Apart from the top end ones

I've had a Diamondback X-Link since 2000, and it's been an awesome bike. Climbs any terrain, bombs any descent, and is infinitely upgradeable. I'd get another one if I could find one. I just swapped my knobbies out for a set of Michelin Transworld X's and am now using it to commute the 20 miles from work to home.

I'd been thinking about getting a BMX for a while. I take my young kids to some parks around here to ride on some of the little walking/biking trails they have. I can't keep up with them walking, but to take one of my other bikes would be ridiculous. I was at Dicks the other day when I saw an 07 Viper X. DB calls this a racing bike, but it has a gyro? With a $20 coupon I got it for $138 out the door. I never expected it to be the best bike, but for the price I figured I could give it a try.

I seem to ride a wierd combination of street and freestyle, and I'd like to get a front brake for some low speed freestyle and trials like manuevers. For this kind of riding the 44:16 gearing is way, way to high. This could have been a problem a much nicer bike though. Fortuneately with the one piece crank I was able to go out to the shed and find some old kids bikes with different sized chainrings. I should be able to figure out what size I like and then maybe order a decent one.

All in all I see no problems with my DB, but I'm sure if I end up doing much harder riding it may not hold up.

Viper X is a shocking bike, my friend had one, after a few months the spokes just fell out of the wheel. That was back in 05' though

castanagajt 02-06-08 02:53 AM

they are not bad at all, really. At Sport Chalet we are selling the viper x for only a 100.00 and yes that is with a gyro. My brother has had one since 1999, his first bmx bike DiamondBack Assault EX. Diamondbacks tend to be in the more affordable end of bmx aswell as mountain bikes for a long time, now so for the price of an entry level Diamondback or even any other brand, don't expect the greatest parts, just parts that serves the occasional light duty rider.

I've been riding a venom for 2 days now...

I just learned how to do the fire hydrant (not perfect, but I can do it easily but can't roll for too long)

=)

BMX is sick !

I just purchased an '08 Viper X, it's pretty descent for $190 bucks, I had a Viper when I was a kid, I think it was a '94-'95, I'm not sure. It was a good bike, I don't know if it's just me but the older one seemed lighter, maybe they are just better built then they used to be. When I got the first one I didn't know anything about BMX it just looked cool cause it was all chrome and I could afford it. It just so happens my style of riding was what it was built for. The only thing I don't like on the new one is that they took the front brake off, I guess you don't need em for racing but it would suit my purpose so I will add one. I also changed the seat out for a little bit longer one, I felt like I was too far forward and the rails are so small on the stock seat you can't move it back much. I also switched out the pedals for some more narrow ones, I always used to scrape the pedals on my old one and I hated it, I like the narrow ones much better. I never had a problem with the old one (except that my mom gave it to my brother when he went to college and he left it in the rain and let it get stolen,) I beat it up a lot and never had anything major go wrong, I'd recommend one.

Oh by the way can anyone recommend a good front brake for that bike, I just got back into this and I don't know what would work for it.
