Bmx racing

Hey guys I am looking for your input on a race bike. I am a college student as of now. So basicaly I dont have much money to spare. So I am thinking about getting into bmx racing. The most I want to spend on a comleate is 300. So That realy limits my choices. So far everyone I have talked to says that I should get a cromo bike for my first race frame. But the problem is that I havent seen a decent cromo race bike for my price range. How bad is alluminum exactly? it cant be all they crack it up to be. But anyways My two choices that I have narrowed down right now are the dk dart expert and the mcs holeshot expert. Now I am not dead set on these bikes but they are boath within my price range and look like good bikes on paper. I am going to be buying them from a place called konasports.com I dont know if anyone has had any dealings with them before but any input you can give me would be greatly appreceated. Also If anyone who knows somone who lives near columbus ohio with a race frame for a good price It would be greatly appreceated I have had a few offers for some bikes but most of them live to far away.

THANKS
Sean Scott

A great race bike for $300 is a GT Powerseries Pro. Also a DK Fury isn't a bad race bike for under 300. But how tall are you and how much do you weigh?

Hmmm

You should really go to a local track and try it out one of their loaner bikes first, pretty much every track has them for people to try racing before they commit the big bucks.

Unless you are a poor and SMALL college student, your narrowed down choices are likely to be a bit of a problem for you. "Expert" is a size category, the bikes go Mini, Junior, Expert and then into adult sizes. An Expert bike is a race bike for a kid, usually from age 8 - 12 depending of course on how big they are. They have 1 3/8 inch tires and are usually weight limited to around 110 pounds or so. You appear to be shopping by price rather than by what is the right size for you, do yourself a favour and at least take a look at a few as the adult race bikes come in varying top tube lengths and you need to find the one that fits you.

Hey I got another question for you guys. What do the guys who whear glasses do? Becuase I am a glasses whearer and It is very difficult for me to push my glasses back thru my helmet (and hair, lol i have long hair) so What do they do But I noticed that its realy only hard on my current pair of glasses wich has flex frames. I tried sliding a pair of sungleases back in there and it worked much better but they were not perscription. So do the racers that whear glasses whear perscription sunglases? or what?

THANKS

I've seen guys wear glasses but it's not popular. Try to get a few pairs of contacts for when you race.

No, the guy that says he's in college. He's looking for a comleate, but doesn't want alluminum. He's picked two bikes that are boath in his price range, and any help we can give him would be appreceated. He's also a a glasses whearer, not just regular ones, but sungleases too. How the heck could someone pass high school with his spelling and grammar.

Now, as far as race bikes go, just get aluminum. For someone just getting into racing the bike hardly matters anyway. Spending a grand isn't going to make any difference if you don't practice and train. And the rest of the gear isn't cheap either. You'll need a full face helmet, long sleeve racing jersey (anything but a jersey will get stinkin' hot quickly) long pants, decent shoes, and full-finger gloves. And a license.

And if you can't get your glasses on once your helmet is on, perhaps your helmet is the wrong size.
