should i get this bike?
hi peeps, newbie here, so yeah, i'm a 5"3' girl, and was wondering if this bike would be right for me? bike i don't even know if this is a kid's bike or adult bike lol... should i even get a bmx bike? cuz they look nice and i like them cuz they aren't too high and i don't want to deal with gears and stuff... i just need a bike to commute (well not that far anyways) and more to exercise. ok thanks :)

Welcome to the forums. As this may seem like a good idea, it's actually not so great. That bike is a heap. Also, if you are just going to be using it for commuting, a BMX bike is pretty much the last bike you'd want.
|
Define "commuting". Riding to the park? Or riding a few miles to work or school?
|
If you want to get in shape and commute then dont buy a BMX bike. Look at a cruiser or a fixedgear/singlespeed like a pista or Kilo TT.

Well, I'm not sure how old you are..... But a few things you should know about a BMX bike.
1- there not ment to sit on and ride. Generally when you ride, your out of the saddle. 2- because of the small wheel size, (20") they generally travel slower than say a road bike or MTB bike. 3- because of there smaller size, they are easy to manipulate in a city setting. 4- they are fun to play on while comutting, such as learning to hop, jump, grind and such. I'm 53, and I usually peddle a bmx bike 7-15 miles daily,(including, hopping, jumping, grinding, wall riding ect) and race them on the weekends. Love it! Post a thread on what should I look for? I wouldn't get the Raligh. |

I'm 19 and my arms, legs and wrists hate it. |
My wrists hate it the most. I haven't ridden in a few days because my wrists have been killing.

I can't even move them. They are getting a bit better, though. I've sprained my wrists way too many times in my past. Boxing certainly didn't help them either...

Then learn to wrap.

Pansies.

Coming from somebody who rides granny gear.

At least when I get hurt I don't whine and complain about it for attention.

No, even wrapped up twice they still killed. It's not my technique in punching either. I just have really bad wrists. I'm just lucky it doesn't hurt my on curveballs.

At least I'm not the one who went to Interbike and didn't take pictures or do anything at all BMX related. I'm still loyal to my sport. |

I have terrible wrists from spraining them way too many times when I was younger.

There's a really big fat paycheck headed my way, (nothing to do with the forums) for which Interbike plays a big role. So yeah, I didn't have time to be loyal. But I had good intentions. And we got to ride for about 4 hours at around 100MPH in the desert on our motorcycle. Both ways. |

Thanks for the reminder.

Grazie, signore.

sounds like either hybrid or a cummuter bike is what you're after, but for sure not a BMX bike, they aren't meant to be ridden any considerable distance and if you don't want to bother with gears just get a single speed bike
