Am I Good?

For 5 weeks of riding freestyle, does this seem like it is a good point to be at?

There's more to BMX than backflips.

Yeah, that's what I've been thinking. Backflips are just the best trick I have right now so I put a lot of them in the video. I edited it. I meant to put this video.

Ok - more variety in that one. I'll give you an honest opinion/critique. Please take no offense at it, it's just my opinion. First, I'll start w/ the most important thing - are you having fun? If you aren't, then it doesn't matter if you're good. If you are, then it doesn't matter if you suck (trust me).
In the vid, I saw you landed a couple backflips. Pretty cool! Really. But that does sort of reinforce my opinion on backflips - a relatively easy trick, just has a high danger factor and a crowd-pleaser.
In the interest of full disclosure, I can't do flips & suck at jumping in general. And at 37yrs old, have no intention of learning flips.

Now, the rest of your riding...
You don't quite look comfortable on the bike yet. A little more on the awkward side. It lacks that smoothness and flow that makes everything just look better. This just comes with more time riding. I'd say don't focus on the flips & big tricks for a while - you got the feel for that now. Focus more on just learning to ride. Learn to smoothly pump ramps, carve quarters & walls. Work on getting above the coping in a mini-ramp/bowl.
Also - learn to manual. It's the funnest thing you can do on a bike & you can do it anywhere. Plus, if you can manual well, you can control your bike pretty good.
Again, just my opinion.
And just so you know where I'm coming from, I'm a 37 yr old BMXer who rides light street & park with some racing thrown in. If asked if I was good, I'd say I suck but I'm having a lot of fun.
Keep riding!
-Bill
BTW - I noticed in your vid you are clearly not afraid of crashing. Good! That'll help you learn new stuff.

I like how you can do backflips and nothing else..... Oh yea, it'd be better without the music.

I could only watch 1:30, learn some basics dude. You ride like a hack.

thanks. I didn't think I was good. I've only been riding for 5 weeks and not every day. And now I can do more than flips. I only have a couple tricks down, as in I land them almost every time I try them, and those are: no footer, no footed seat grab, disaster, tuck-no hands, and nothing. I've been working on a tailwhip for a while and have been having trouble.
wds, thanks for the advice, and yeah, I have a ton of fun riding.

live4muzic2 10-20-07 08:40 PM

good, but get some style and flow...

bmxBD 10-20-07 08:49 PM

what gives it style

live4muzic2 10-20-07 09:05 PM

smooth rotation, turn softly on the quarters, and jump more smooth/land softer instead of hard.

wethepeople 10-21-07 01:43 AM

Go pump around a race track for a bit and you'll figure out some flow.

bmxBD 10-21-07 10:10 AM

thanks for the tips.

popitus 10-27-07 01:57 AM

I think that's pretty good. Maeby because i haven't got the bike yet. So when i get the bike ill show you. :) OffTopic: what was that song in the vid?

CMcMahon 10-27-07 02:03 AM

I'm drunk, and I've come to a conclusion: I need mushrooms.

wethepeople 10-27-07 12:01 PM

Salvia.

CMcMahon 10-27-07 12:24 PM

I just watched the video, and the answer to your question is "no".

Yea but weird bad ones. My friend said he got sucked into this light and was racing himself, so to win he had to eat himself then he got bigger. . .

wethepeople 10-28-07 02:22 AM

When I tried it my friend was a giant triangle with a waterfall running down his face.

Then a spider ate him.

live4muzic2 10-28-07 09:14 PM

my friend was *** in his mom from way bAck.

Fuse4 10-29-07 12:12 AM

personally i did all that except a backflip after about a week and a half. but my friend still cant to all that after a term. it really depends person to person and how badly you want to do something
