I just started racing BMX after a brief 22 year retirement this last year. One of my friends named Greg from High School used to race with me back in the early 1980's. He has also not raced in forever. He really loved the idea of getting back into racing. Unfortunately he is going through a very messy divorce which has wiped out all of his finances. He struggles on a month to month basis to take care of himself and his 4 year old daughter. He and I are now both single Dad's with custody of our daughters. Purchasing a bike and racing gear was out of the question for him now and in the forseeable future. When I went through my divorce some years ago I found myself in that same dark place that he now struggles to escape. Today I bought him a DK Fury Pro 24 Cruiser. I will be delivering it to him tomorrow. I want him to know he is loved and to have a fond thought of racing again to get him through these next several months. (We live in Michigan and have to travel some distance to find an indoor track in the winter) I look forward to watching him hit the track again. I know this will help him get through these tough times. One day you may find yourself with the opportunity to help someone who is going through a dark time in their life. Please go out of your way to help them a little. Maybe you buy them a gift. Maybe you call them a little more often than you normally would. Listen to what your heart tells you to do and spread the love.

Update

I gave Greg the cruiser this afternoon. He almost cried with joy. He is absolutley ecstatic about the idea of racing again. We will be heading to Cobra BMX in Sunbury, OH during January and February to do some indoor racing this winter. This really helped pick him up and give him something to focus on. Maybe these times will be a little less dark for him. I am going to get a picture of the first time he takes a gate drop in practice. I will frame it and give it to him as a gift. I can't wait to race with him again. This really is turning out to be a Merry Christmas.

Well I got a new digital camera from my girlfirend for Christmas so I can now get some pics. I don't think I will be able to get Greg to the indoor track in Sunbury, OH until the later part of January. I will try to get by his house and get some pics of him posing with the bike over the next week or two.

Thank you to everybody for the good wishes. Everybody needs a little help to pick them up once in a while. I was glad to help out. May you also be so lucky as to help another in this way during your lives.

Gregs bike is Orange on Black. JFTB used to intrigue me but now she bores me.

I hope Greg lands much hotter babes. He is a great guy.
