First Freestyle BMX

I`m sorry to make another forum like this but I really dont know anything about the technical side of BmX.
i`ve recently moved and found the oppurtunity to ride some more BMX style riding and obviousley my mountain bike isnt working for what i want. My general terrain is concrete, gravel and some grass, my price range is well as low as possible. Oh and I`m in Dallas Texas. I want something I wont have to do a bunch of maitnence on and will be very durable. I`m not asking for an exact awnsers but some ideas.
Thanks, JM

Height and weight?

We always suggest the DK six pack, but anything with a full 4130 cromo frame will do. Avoid High-tensile steel. You will pay a bit more for 4130 but the bike will last ages longer.

height: 5,3 and growing
weight 125
So is the 6 pack the cheapest?

wethepeople 01-10-08 05:47 PM

Best bike you can get for the price.

Joe18 01-10-08 06:06 PM

Ok, thanks

Well I`ve been reading reviews and watching Vids. I`ve found that the Riding i intend to do is street, and That the reviews say its not that good for Street? Any opinions?

a six pack is pretty versitile.

wethepeople 01-13-08 04:44 AM

Six pack works for anything sans flatland.

Joe18 01-13-08 10:04 AM

Ok, Just making sure.

No.

Joe18 01-16-08 08:33 PM

Why not?

fuzzbox 01-16-08 10:46 PM

The real question is: why do you need one? If you think it is for bar spins you can do it without a gyro.

wethepeople 01-17-08 01:40 AM

Because they're finicky.

BrandXComix 01-17-08 05:13 PM

they're finicky and a pain to adjust the brakes, I've been riding with a gyro for about a year and I still don't have it down at all. I haven't even tried barspins yet, it does come in handy when I'm cramming my bike into my car though.

Joe18 01-17-08 07:46 PM

Ok thanks, My bike shop only stocks Redline and mirraco of these brands what would you suggest? I might still go with the six pack?

live4muzic2 01-17-08 09:18 PM

Mirraco is a great brand.

bmx2478 01-18-08 03:35 AM

neither.
i wouldnt exactly call mirraco 'great'.

wethepeople 01-18-08 03:39 AM

Mirraco is pretty shady.

bmx2478 01-18-08 05:30 AM

Yeah i heard something about that too but i googled it and found that its last years models http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml07/07116.html
So nobody thinks any of them are any good? What about redline? either the 1.2 or the 3.2

wds178 01-18-08 09:13 AM

The fork issue Mirra Co had has been remedied. S&M once had problems with dropouts only tack-welded on, but I don't see any one dissing S&M. Of course many kids weren't born when that happened either...

As far as a complete freestyle bike the main thing you want to look for is a full-chromoly frame & fork. That's why the DK 6-pack is well-thought of. It gives you that & fair parts for a good price. A LOT of other bikes at the same price-point have similar parts spec, but a lesser frame.

So do some reasearch on the Mirra CO & Redlines in your price range & see what the frame is made of. Don't think that "Chromoly Top Tube" or "All chromoly Main frame" is the same as "Full Chromoly" or "100% Chromoly". If it doesn't say ALL 4130 chromoly, it isn't.
