Whats up people, ok so my name is david and im 6ft 2in tall and 240lbs and im a soldier so im i decent shape, i used to bmx race when i was younger and i wanna get back on a bike for dirt jumps and freestyle street, but i am not sure what kinda bike i need. when i was a kid it was like hey here is a race bike go have at it, but now im an adult, i have no budget i can spend up to 2000 if need be but i would prefer a really good bike for around 500 or 600, i know s&m have the dirt bike which is suppsed to be good but its just the frame, im not sure what size top tube to get or if i should get special forks cuz im so big, or wheels i think i saw a article saying i should get wheels that are 20x1.75 or somthing. and the top tube on the bke needs to be at least 20.25. or somthing, if some one can suggest a complete bike that is gonna hold up for some big dirt jumps i would love that but just general info on what size stuff to get would be great, im kinda partial to s&m, fit, and kink products

go with the new 2010 mirracos. They generally come with a integrated headset, integrated seat clamp, small sprocket (25 or 28T) with a 9 or 10T driver, double wall rims, pivotal seat and post. This setup basically eliminates the need to upgrade to those components if you bought a cheapie department store bike. Whatever you do dont go to toys r us, walmart..target..etc. Also one last thing make sure your headset, cranks and hubs are sealed! Any questions just email me a bsc25@drexel.edu ill fill you in for some info.

mirracos are the way to go
if your over 6'2 you definately want a 21" TT. You could also get away with riding a 20.75. Take a look a the mirracos. They come complete with everything you need to bmx. (Small Sprockets, sealed headsets, cranks, hubs, integrated seat clamp and headset, pivatol seat and post) Most of the bicycles completes range from 24-26 lbs.

They seem to be priced about the same.
My plan is to do some racing, no tricks.
Me, 5' 11", 200 lbs.
Currently race road (crits mainly), cyclocross, a little mtb and have raced track (which I enjoyed the most, but I don't have a track near where I live anymore).
Have not raced bmx since 1984 or so...when I was 13...so yeah, I am getting old!

GT Powerseries. The Redline would be too small, and I just like GT better overall.

Yes, I noticed that later on. I just wish the GT was a bit more subdued. Too much gold for my taste.
I think the Redline I should consider in that range is the 09 PROLINE PRO 24
https://www.redlinebicycles.com/bmxra...o-cruiser.html
Still probably would lean towards the GT.

The gold rims are a bit much, but they'll grow on you.

Hi I'm looking for a CHEAP (<$150) BMX bike for my sister. She doesn't plan on doing tricks.. just wants something easy to ride to cruise around the streets with. I saw Mongoose bikes at Costco for around $100.. are they any good? Thanks.

Looking to pick up a bmx bike to start riding again. Here is some info.
I am 6' 200lbs. What size top tube? 20", 20.25", 20.5", 20.75", 21"?
It seems that brakeless is the new thing. I really prefer brakes and maybe even front and rear brakes with a detangler. Is that possible in new BMX bikes? I see the Eastern Metalhead fits that description but a lot of people say eastern is not so good.
Not looking to spend more than $500. Possible to get a bike ready to ride without the need to change anything out in that budget? I am willing to spend more if there is a noticable difference in build quality or parts.
Also I was looking at the Fit bikes and see they have STR, PRK, and TRL. What is the difference between them? I would think the PRK would be best for me right? How is the PRK3?
Any other recomendations? Thanks

Go for a 21" tt.
i would def get a bike with back brakes, and that's all that is really necessary. But you can always install front brakes.
If you want more stopping power, just get sticky pads.
I think eastern and fit are along the same level. They dont make bad bikes, but you pay WAY too much for what you get in most of the cases, especially with the lower end completes. And eastern has a bad rep from a lot of their early run products. I would buy an eastern before i would buy a fit.
I recommend:

I am now looking at the WTP Trust. Can you put a gyro on that bike? It says removable brake hardware and thats it. Some of the other models say removable gyro tabs and this doesnt. Is that good bike?

@Jynx
The trust is a pretty good bike.
If the bike doesn't have gyro tabs or removable gyro tabs, you would have to drill and tap some yourself, which would be a pain. But i think the Trust has removable tabs (usually 2 vertical holes on each side of the steering tube is a good indicator).
I'm almost 100% sure you could put a gyro on it. But if you don't plan on doing bar spins, there isn't really a point. And even then, you can put a long cable on it if you did want to do spins.
@Solbrothers
If you want to jump curbs and do tricks, i would suggest a 20". Now, finding a TT size that fits your height is going to be difficult.
If i were you, i would get a 21" TT (Without going custom route, i can't imagine your going to find a 20" complete with a TT greater than 21")
Then, if that 21"TT feels small, i would get a stem with more reach, and bigger bars. You may want to go 8.5"-9" bars.
I would go to a bmx store, and test ride their 21" TT bikes (don't let them sell you on a 24" or 26" cruiser). Then decide if you need something bigger.
Keeping in mind that bigger bars change how much room you have in a HUGE way, so take note of their height

cool awesome. thanks so much for your help. a coworker is trying to sell me a cruiser, but yeah, i want to be able to do some fun stuff, so ill definitely be on the lookout for a 20" bike with a 21" top tube
