Anyone ever ship a bike?
I'm trying to get a bike shipped down to me from Michigan to Texas. It's a 20" bike. There's no wheels on the bike; it's everything but the wheels though, fully assembled. So I need a pretty big box, wide enough for pedal to pedal width, stem to back end length, and handlebar to bottom of sprocket height. My quote from UPS is $150!! That's based on the size of the box I would need.
My Mom has the bike in her garage and she isn't what I would call "mechanically inclined" and this bike is vintage and I don't want any wrenches on it unless it's someone who knows what they are doing. Otherwise I could tear it down and get it in a much smaller box.
Is there anyone out there with shipping experience that can offer a possible solution?

tell her to take it to a bike shop - they can tear it down and box it up and ship it to you for $50
