christmas present help

Hello, I don't know much about bikes, and I need to know what kind to get a 13 yr old that wants to mainly ride trails and maybe do some jumping.

Any help from you "pros" would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

That's cool, and thank you for the speedy reply.
You know how to make a guy feel welcome.

Well, my grandparents are actually buying this bike for my 13 yr old cousin. They were about to go to Wal Mart and just buy any old bike and I said...whoa, I have the internet and I need to see what is worth buying. No harm in getting some advice.

I would say somewhere in the range of $200-250...don't have a lot of money, just want something durable but not pricey. Basically one kid got a Gamecube and this is for the other and we are trying to make the prices comparable to avoid the...you spent more on him than me...argument.

So, again thanks
and any info is great and I appreciate it.

kadargo,

I'm pretty sure Wal-Mart is not the place to go for your cousin's bike. I'd recommend going to your local bike shop with him. Tell them your money limit and what type of riding he wants to do. They'll help you find the right bike (either a mountain bike or a BMX style bike) with the right price.

Also, this way, your cousin can pick out the one he likes the best. The worst thing would be if he got the bike Christmas morning but never rode it more than once because he didn't like something small, but oh so important, like the color. You know?

Hope this helps,
velo

200-225 is haro range, on my bike the price range was 400, but i kept getting it higer until 800 was my limit (problem was i have to pay some of this 800...)

anyway, you may have some problems with only 200, but i'm sure something has to be out there for him, oh and k-mart and walmart bike are the worst you can buy, they aren't even welded good!!

You DO NOT want to buy a cheapo bike!!! Here is a website link that will help.....

https://www.bikesrnottoys.com/

Since you are new at this, this website is helpful.

I had a Huffy when I was a kid, but that was a looooonnnngggg time ago and they do not make them like they used to.

Hope this helps.

By the way, I was not trying to say that the amount of money that you had was cheapo, what I meant was, do not go to a discount store.

You may very well find a reasonable price for a bike that is made to stand up to the beating that a young kid will give it.

I would suggest Ebay.com, but if you're not in the bike game, you might be bidding on a hunk of poo...best go to an LBS, where you can get good advice....now's the time to buy 2001 models at a discount rate!

Happy shopping
