Turner Drive System

I'm willing to pay good money for an aftermarket AWD (dual wheel drive) Turner Drive System or the Turner Drive System from a Herrington Crusader II BMX bike.

Let me know if you know where I can get one. I'll also give a reward for info if it leads to a purchase.

Thanks.

What are you talking about?

FuzzyRyder 03-10-09 02:59 PM

Impossible to find.

jsharr 03-10-09 02:59 PM

Turner Drive Systems was a company based in Arkansas that made a power take off system to transfer power from rear wheel to front wheel via a flexible shaft drive.

Rare and hard to find from what I can see.

Christini's system is somewhat similar from what I can tell

That's pretty sweet. But what is the point?

jsharr 03-10-09 03:27 PM

The point is increased traction apparently. Never having ridden one, I cannot comment on that.

not impossible. http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/herrington/23037/1 this due's got one. although it seems really stupid. I wouldn't use one

That looks wierd, but really cool.

seems about a useful as adding a back brake to a bike that already has a front brake, considering that when you accelerate hard your front wheel naturally lifts a bit and isn't going to have enough traction to make powering it worth the trouble.

jsharr 03-11-09 08:04 AM

If your power output is being equally split front to rear, the front end loft would be lessened, IMHO. Ever watched an all wheel drive car launch hard off the starting line versus a rear wheel drive car? The AWD stays level, while the RWD squats at the back and lifts at the front.

The same thing may not transfer to bikes, but it may.

I think that is awesome.

His isn't for sale.

zylstra 03-11-09 05:57 PM

Thanks for all of your responses.

This isn't the circumstance that the drive is designed for. One of the circumstances is when your back wheel loses traction.

True, and although the power output is not split equally, the idea does transfer in some fashion to these drives.

True...

Definately not impossible...I have two Turner Drive System AWD setups...I did a search trying to find more information and stumbled accross this thread. The yellow bike is a crusader I frameset with a crusader II fork and a aftermarket AWD setup. The aftermarket AWD setup is designed for a mountain bike. The white bike is a crusader II has the bmx AWD setup. I have spoke with Chad Herrington about both of these bikes...He has no idea how the aftermarket AWD MTB setup ended on the crusader I, but he has told me that the Crusader II that I have is one that he had custom built. According to Chad, only 50 Crusader II's (frame sets) and 75 Crusader I's (frame sets) were ever produced...

If you guys have any more information, let me know...

Does anyone know where you can buy a used one or new/old one?

I have one... on a F600 Cannondale MTB.

The Turner system is not awd- it's 2wd, 50/50. I read a review where a guy tested a new display model on a set of rollers, he used one of the brakes instead of both, destroying the drive system.

Christini is awd, the front drive is over driven, it really only engages when the front wheel slips.

I have a TDS on a Cannondale, I can send photos of whatever you are looking to figure out about it. I don't race it anymore...

tlandis 12-09-14 10:04 AM

NOT... impossible

I even have one hanging up from my "racing days"... it is on a Cannondale F600.

Haven't used it in years... (kind of getting "too long for that") Anyway, if people want pictures, or videos... let me know.

I'm not into BMX but this sounds so cool. The description reminds me of the ROKON 2WD motorcycle.
Please post pictures or video.

Okay... I understand that this is not a place to "sell" things, but is there a place on this site to connect buyers and sellers?

I have a Turner Drive System, an I would like to see it used by someone more fit than me. While Craigslist and Ebay are an option.. It tends to be more of service getting folks connected for common good.

I’m not super familiar with the site, but I sent you a visitor message that I believe you’ll see if you look under your profile.
