Need some help, have a few questions =)
Hi,I just got back into BMX got my fixed gear road conversion up and running , now im craving bmx again, so it's been a while since i've ridden bmx, so I have a few questions.
1. why do I see alot of complete bikes being sold without brakes are they fixed gear , if they are ... why? 2. I'm 5'10 180 pounds, should i get a longer frame like 21 tope tube? 3, is there anything else i should know about bmx nowadays? I'm looking for just a descent bike dk, wtp,fit.. somewhere along those lines, I really want to cruise to the schools, do some grinding, park riding I also want to do some dirt jumping aswell. Also are there any descent completes around 200-250? Ive looked but I want other opinions, i dont know about all the new stuff out there Thanks Brian |
1. These are not fixed-gear bmx bikes. There is a trend to ride brake free, though most completes do come with an optional brake. When riding without a brake I use the foot-on-rear-tire stopping technique when necessary.
2. I'm 6'1" and ride a 20.75" top tube. It's a matter of taste and feel. Try a few and see whats cozy. 3. If you are INTO bikes than I'd recommend getting a frame and parts and building something up. CL here in Philly always has BMX parts and completes for a deep discount. As long as the frame is 4130 Cro-Moly steel than you'll be good to go. Enjoy. |
Awesome ,thanks for the reply, I am very into bikes. I actually was looking at a cheap eastern dragon frame for like 50 bucks on craigslist, i already have some alex rims off my old chromo torker, i plan on using temporarily until i get a descent set, half the fun is building the bikes hehe .
I was leaning more towards a complete and upgrading because ive been out of the game for so long, but now that i think of it building one would be the best option for me even money wise , alot of bmx parts around here for sale. Brian |
easterns kinda suck though. probably wont last too long, even if you're just gettin back into it.
|
Yea ,I'm sure you are right, it's just a temp frame until I save up for something descent.=)
Brian |
well then i guess it should last long enough

i wouldnt use eastern they crack.
fit dents pretty easy so that wouldnt be good for you. i would have to say a good S&M frame. i had a LAF and that thing was a tank! and im 5'9 and i ride a 21'' top tube and i have no problems but my dropouts are really short so i can still manual and stuff like that. every eastern part i had broke for some reason. yet there are still pros riding them with no problem. and build your own bike dont buy a complete. mix and match |
Fits are good frames. Don't listen to this clown. He's trying to be funny.

I ended up getting a used 2008 Fit AM complete for 165, kid who had it took the detangler off so running straight cable which is much better, it's a bit heavy though, what are the best parts to switch out to make it lighter?
I was thinking about running breakless,I love the simplicity plus im not riding in the street or near people plus thats a little bit off weight off the bike and will make me commit better to my attempts. If i end up not liking it ill put it back on hehe |
If I were you, I would try to upgrade the frame ASAP. Ask FitRider about it.
|
oh really, weak frame or something? , hah now you got me worried
|
**** bike.
|
Yeah, pretty much.

It's made out of hi-tensil crap steel. The rear triangles usually end up getting mangled and warped right away or just snap off.
|
frame should be the first thing to go...the rest of the bike is halfway decent
