How many of you guys ride brakeless? i went brakeless the other day and i love it but there is to major downsides, wears out shoes quickly, and it wears out rear tire

i was front brake only for a while but went brakeless last year to force myself to learn some new stuff and because i like a really simple bike. i also mostly ride street. its made me a smoother rider and my bike is anything but trendy

When I was a kid we went breakless only when we broke them. But then again our bikes where all made from the dump. So we just had to wait for another set to be there. Funny I remember thinking it sucked making and maintaining my bike like that as a kid but now look back on it as fun times. lol

Brakeless isn't pointless. it makes for a clean easy to maintain bike, lighter, and helps you go faster then you think you need which is good usually...

Brakes aren't rocket science and it doesn't make your bike noticeably lighter.

Yes it actually does make your bike lighter, and I never said brakes were rocket science. Infact i am a master at brake tuning, but some people prefer to just not stop or slow down, and have a bike that is clean looking and super easy to keep running dialed. No cable to tangle in bar spins or whips. Your bike control improves massively and you build up more balls to do ****. You don't depend on brakes for tricks, you just learn the same tricks without brakes and get to know how your bike feels better. plus you can paint your wheels all badass and not worry about the paint getting messed up. Plus i bet i can stop just as fast as you by putting a foot down or just putting both feet down and stopping the bike. I dont go through shoes either. Ive had a pair of vans no schools going on 4 years holding up fine.

i dont mind working on brakes either. i used to hate it until i learned what i was doing. my bike is already too heavy to notice the weight difference too.

how does this contribute to this thread at all? let me guess, you're trying to give us a reality or something, right? riding brakeless isnt about being "brave". for me, its about forcing myself to change the way I ride and to learn how to do things differently. when you dont have brakes to save you, it forces you to look further ahead and be more aware of your environment and whats going on in it. ive never been in a situation where something has surprised me or where ive needed stop suddenly because of this and my bike doubles as my main mode of transportation in downtown savannah, ga. There are a couple of kids who live in my neighborhood who's parents have raised them with the same mindset that you seem to have. they're too afraid to try anything new because theres a chance they could get hurt or fail. they're most likely going to spend their lives so afraid of being hurt or dying that they will probably die without ever really "living" their life. please dont post if you're going to be complaining about something that none of us have done or if you're going to be posting more irrelevent close minded comments

I guess it is waayy too heavy if normal brakes are.

Its just bulky and harder to dial your brakes in with anyway. Brakes are unnecessary if you can ride well and are in the physical shape to do it. If you want to learn brake tricks or just prefer a brake then run a damn brake. If you don't want brake then don't have em. These options exist for reasons. No reason to knock brakes or none.

you just put your foot in the tire to stop
and yess with out brakes
its not realy dangerous it you know what your doing

new to this forum. I seen this post and man did it bring back memories when I rode my old Performer brakeless for awhile. I only ride trail now, don't know if I would ever try brakeless now, but it has helped me become a better rider with brakes.

It's more fun and it's better. But most importantly, it's your own decision so don't worry about what other people think and set up your bike how you damn well please.

The only thing i can say is when i went brakeless it really helped me learn how to control my bike. but then i got tired of it and bought brakes.
