i gotta bunch of new stuff for my bike *haro mirra 540 air* and im having trouble getting the barrings out to put in the new ones in, and i wanna do it without damaging them to much.. ne ideas?

There in the crank? Well I wouldnt see a reason why they shouldnt come out. If there stuck against the cup as we call it then you must have done something pretty bad.

i took a nice bash on the side of the bottom bracket, but its not bad enough to effect they way they come out

Have you tried to get some grease in-between the "cup" and the berrings? Try that.

Bearings are removed with the cups at the same time. Typically you take a long screwdriver and stick it through one bearing and put it on the edge of the cup on the opposite bearing, then beat the hell out of it with a hammer. It takes a lot of force, and you need to work the screwdriver around the entire bearing cup, but it will soon loosen, and then the cup will pop out.

Then flip the frame over, and use an old seatpost or piece of pipe to remove the other bearing/cup combo.

If he needs to beat the hell out of it then me will most likely damage which he said he didnt want to do.

If you don't know what I am talking about then please don't comment on what I say.

The way listed above is the way to do it.

The sleeve is a spacer that isn't attached to anything and should be able to be 'pushed' out of the way with a screwdriver. It isn't actually connected to anything and once one of your bearings/cups is knocked out, then that spacer will fall out. The spacer is used so that when you tighten down on your crank arms against the bearings from the outside, it pushes back on the bearings from the inside. It sits on the spindle of your cranks and 'floats' between the bearings. The pressure on that sleeve should not be so great that you can't push it out of the way.

When hammering the cups/bearings out, just a reminder to make sure the screwdriver is against the CUP, not the bearing. The outer edge is all cup, so as long as you have a pretty good angle on your screwdriver you are likely on the bearing. The inside of your bottom bracket is totally smooth, so if you put the screwdriver in with enough angle to hit the inside steel of the bottom bracket, then slide it across, you are hitting your cups, and not the bearing, and can hammer away.

In 17 years of riding, this is how bike shops have removed them for me, and how I have removed them myself, and I have yet to damage a bearing - and I have always been careful about it.

if you got new ones... are the old ones worth keeping? what shape are they in?
