trackstand help

im confused bmxtrix confused me. so can anyone explain simply what is it exactly and what is the easiest variation (hopefully a version that doesnt need pegs)

This has nothing to do with BMX:

You do trackstands on track bikes. They are not BMX bikes, they are SS fixed gear bikes. You put your cranks horizontal to to ground, then sit there. And sit there. And sit there. Often, you turn your front wheel, too. You balance. If you start moving forward, you go backwards. It's a fun thing to do at traffic lights, especially if you sit in the crosswalk blocking all of the oncoming traffic untill the light turns green, then sit there for another couple of minutes/changes of the light just to PTO.

Hopefully, this will be the last post I ever make in BMX forum :)

Hopefully it will be as well, since there is most definitely a flatland/bmx version of the track stand which are any tricks in which both tires on the ground and you are not moving. Same term from fixed gear bikes, but you do variations of just standing still.

Look at the video on BMXTRIX in conjunction with the words. But, you will want to do the following...

1. Put your RIGHT foot on your LEFT pedal.
2. Slow down until you almost stop
3. Turn your front wheel 90 degrees to the RIGHT so your handlebars are right next to your seat.
4. Grab your front brakes as you do step 3 so you don't fall flat on your face
5. Put your left foot on the front tire and if you start to fall backwards, pull down on it.
6. If you start to fall forwards... lean back. There is no way other than balance to correct for falling forwards.
7. To ride out, turn your bars forwards and try to get a little forward momentum, it's hard to ride out from the pedals really.

Watch the video, watch the video, watch the video, watch the video.

Also check www.bmxstunts.com for a video.

i couldnt find any video at bmxstunts. ill keep looking. any toher info you guys can offer would help thanks

I am working on shooting some new videos for BMXTRIX that will be on par with what BMX Stunts has done with their videos. I like their videos, their descriptions suck, and I don't think you can download their videos, which is super important in my opinion. Anyway, the videos will be updated and I may just throw one out there earlier for you... But it will include a lot more basic tricks shown without brakes, and without pegs. Stuff like that so riders know it is possible and then can explore from there.

Pegs and brakes may help a lot and open a lot of doors, but the door to flatland isn't closed just because you don't have that stuff.

ok i probly should know this or somethin, but are u the guy that does all the stuff on bmxtrix, cause if u are, mad skills, mad skills

BMXTRIX 08-13-04 03:56 PM

Yes... except for a couple of the trix. It is one of the major differences between bikestunts.com and bmxtrix.com - I didn't start a website to do ads for other stuff or anything like that. I ride and I wanted to return to the community some of what freestyle has given me over the years. I am online regularly, and try to ride my bike every day. So, when you direct a question towards me, you get an answer backed by 17 years of freestyle (flatland) specific experience. I have also designed parts or contributed ideas to Odyssey, Haro, and the now defunct, Rigid Cycles. Would you like my resume? ;) ~P~

haro_rider09 08-13-04 04:34 PM

are you the one who does the trackstand or the guy who does the hitch hiker?

BMXTRIX 08-13-04 10:47 PM

Both of those are me - the beginner run example is me. There are only like ten tricks that I didn't do in the videos. The bar ride, barflip, whiplash, tailwhip, tomahawk, surfers, boomerang, barhop.. a few others.

Of those, only the barflip and the tomahawk I have never done... or at least haven't done well enough for video. I was shooting with a friend who has been riding for 15 years now and he was getting bored filming just me, so we switched off. At some point I may have various pros show some of the tricks instead of just me and some local friends.

BMXTRIX have you seen a sci-film called "Clockstoppers" - the guy does a really cool BMX trick where he is cycling down the road and somehow flips the bike round so he is rolling backwards and then back round again so he is rolling forwards- what is this trick called and how is it done? do you know?

jrt1990 08-14-04 07:29 AM

bmxtrix, when did u start riding bmx and what trix could u do in ur first year because thats just awesome all the skill u have

BMXTRIX 08-14-04 02:55 PM

RoyalFlash - 180 rollbacks. BMXTRIX.com -> how-to -> flatland -> 180 rollbacks

I couldn't possibly remember what I was doing my first year. I think I learned brakeless rockwalks, a lot of track stand variations, pogos, endos... Ummm... Tailwhips? Not sure. I started in 1986, so there was no such thing as a steamroller or a whiplash or hitchhiker. Also, no web so the only source for info was magazines, which didn't do a great job showing stuff. Videos were also pretty rare to come by easily. I started learning a lot more when I moved to NorCal, and after a couple of years of riding I think I spent about 1-2 years riding with Pete Brandt who had crazy mad skills then like he does now.
