right vs left

whats the advantage of a left side drive?

stayfit 09-28-10 05:16 PM

Well i guess there is technically no advantage..Most of the time people ride lefty because their pegs are on the right side.. usually meaning they can only grind on their right.. just keeps the crank/sprocket out of the way..but for all i know thats the only real reason to ride lefty..but some people just liek it better im sure.. hope this helped you out

thats what i thought cause i dont see lefty cassettes with 16t, thanks

stayfit 09-28-10 07:50 PM

Well, I guess you've never broken your entire drivetrain because it was on the side you grind on...

edit: People actually still want 16t cassettes?

Street rider 09-29-10 11:56 AM

Racers?

CMcMahon 09-30-10 12:48 AM

Explain to me why a racer is going to want a wheel with left-hand drive...

robertv 09-30-10 01:55 AM

For attention! Trails riders still ride big sprockets and big cassettes. I don't even ride trails and I'm running 36/12...

Still, I don't think theres a big overlap between the big drivetrain crowd and the left side drive crowd.
I think you should be able to run a left side profile with a big cog though.

Hence why there technically is an advantage... but not if you're racing.

stayfit 10-02-10 12:16 PM

well not everybody can/wants to grind so if u dont grind there is no advantage to riding lefty.. i'm just saying.
