brakes...

i just ordered the demolition vulcans allong with the fly pads and cable.
not worried about the pads and the cable fly always pulls through
but i havent heard much about the vulcans.
have you heard anything about them?

fuji86 02-26-11 03:37 PM

They look fine to me. Properly installed and adjusted they should do exactly as they're intended to do, stop a bike.

Decent reviews on them. BTW, the brake I wound up going with was the Dia Compe 990. The freebie bike I wound up with was brakeless because it was removed, so I chose to put a rear brake system from lever to gyro to u-brake on it. Wasn't cheap, you can get close to $ 100 into that at the LBS without trying very hard. Mine works great and am pleased with it. Could've spent more, even could've gone a little cheaper, this is a happy medium though.

Pretty much what I installed:

http://www.amazon.com/Black-Ops-Cali...757643&sr=1-24
http://www.danscomp.com/510003.php

I bought it thru the LBS and it was pretty much marked up for S&H and a few bucks more for profit. I paid about $ 40 for the Dia-Compe, $ 30 for the Odyssey Gyro and $ 20 for a single Black Ops brake lever. I could've done a little better on-line, but these were locally convenient and a few blocks from home. Prices on those on-line links don't include S&H, but I can't imagine being anything more than $ 6-8 more for each item if ordered separately. Like I said, I think they dinged me here and there for each item a little, shame on them, or really shame on me for allowing it to happen ?

Price is about right. I just added up what it cost would me for the brands I know and trust and it came in about $100. If something is only a few bucks more, the local shop will get the business.

tyler11 03-04-11 11:05 AM

well talk about perfact timing...
i just ordered them from my boss like a week ago and i came home to find my bike gone...
they took it right outta my house...

Street rider 03-04-11 11:11 AM

Dude...they seriously just jacked it right out of your house?

midschool22 03-04-11 12:50 PM

Wait...What? Dude, that is really messed up.

tyler11 03-04-11 09:13 PM

yea im workin on figureing out who took it.
so far i got the name of some kid that knows who took it...
idk i hope i get it b4 they strip it

minichamp31 03-04-11 10:33 PM

Sorry to hear man. A stolen bike is never good. I'd be devastated, but I hope you find the kid who jacked it. Beat him with a sock full of padlocks.

Street rider 03-05-11 12:06 AM

Skip the sock, baseball bat wrapped with barbed wire. Theres people in my home town who keep them in their trucks haha

minichamp31 03-05-11 12:12 AM

That's just hardcore. ^ My buddy used to keep an aluminum bat in his car, but it's mainly used for mailboxing. lol.

Street rider 03-05-11 09:36 AM

Course, where I'm from, there was at least one guy that also had a noose in the toolbox of his truck...

fuji86 03-05-11 09:47 PM

Curious, what make, year and model they stole from you ?

tyler11 03-06-11 05:45 PM

Sounds like they knew what they were taking. If the police aren't already involved with the kids parents, they should be, of the one that knows ! And if the cops can't get anything out of him, you need to torture that one until he rats out his buddies and they produce one customized Simple Debut (blue) to your satisfaction.

tyler11 03-10-11 03:39 PM

weiil i found the kids that did it and they got arrested on like 2 fellonys and several other charges.
and i got some of it back...
frame partally sanded, bars also partialy sanded, sprocket painted flat black, front hub with the serial number sanded off the flange, stem un touched and my forks same as i lest them...
still missing front rim ans spokes, whole back wheel cranks pedals ans several other small parts...

midschool22 03-11-11 12:46 AM

Glad to hear you got at least some of it back. Hearing about kids or adults stealing bikes just takes me to a place that is not healthy...for the thief.

fuji86 03-11-11 02:25 AM

Well, I hope the court makes them replace the whole thing for you from prison or wherever they put them. I'd really show up at their sentencing and get with the prosecutor and tell the judge that what you got back is unacceptable and an unusable mess. You're talking about kids here, so the best thing about it is they have parents that can pay, deeper pockets ! I don't know what you have into the bike for a build, but I'd say replacement front to rear is in order for just the bike is a reasonable expectation. Then they can have & keep the one they stole, with a bill and a juvenile record.

Street rider 03-12-11 11:49 AM

Well good luck getting the rest of those parts replaced man

tyler11 03-13-11 05:54 PM

"I don't know what you have into the bike for a build, but I'd say replacement front to rear is in order for just the bike is a reasonable expectation."
i ggot just under $1,300 before shipping, tax and labor.

Street rider 03-13-11 08:05 PM

Are you saying thats what you have in the bike now, or what you were awarded after getting your bike back?

fuji86 03-14-11 12:46 AM

Yeah, see $ 1,300 is quite a bit of money to let this go as a couple/few kids gone wrong. They do have parents and the adults can divy this up to really make it right. I think the judge will see it your way too. You know what you might do ? List components and track down prices on a spreadsheet. Where components are discontinued items, price out an equivalent alternative.

in it. like if i where to go out right now and buy everything new.

Street rider 03-15-11 07:59 AM

Oh ok. Well hopefully you'll be awarded the full amount by the courts or whoever is dealing with this. And how old were these kids?

tyler11 03-15-11 12:59 PM

15 and 18

Street rider 03-15-11 02:06 PM

So obviously the one kid is going to do himself some big boy time, but what about the 15 year old?

tyler11 03-15-11 07:48 PM

hes already on probation for the same thing. this is like his third offence.
hes in jdc for 21 days then probly going into a 6month program

Street rider 03-15-11 10:47 PM

Gotta love the system that just never seems to work. Maybe we should just do something like they did in Clockwork Orange.
