Old timer looking to ride again.

Hi,
I am 29 years old and miss being on a bike. I used to ride all the time as a kid until around high school age. I have been out of the loop so long that I am lost looking for a bike. Could you guys help me find a bike that will fit and not collapse under my 6 foot 230 pound frame. I am not looking for a lightweight race bike at all. Since I am just getting back into it, I am not looking to spend a ton of money on a bike. Can someone lead me in the right direction of a sturdy, inexpensive bike that I won't feel cramped on.

Thanks,
Steve

Is this the best answer I can get? I know there are 20" bikes with different dimensions for all types of riders. Can anyone help with some specifics?

Thanks,
Scriz

That is the kind of information I am looking for. Thanks, JMC. Is a 20" frame the largest made? Anyone else have anything to add?

Hi Scrizzatch, no problems with your age, or size; JMC is spot on. I'm 6' 3", and am looking to buy my second BMX, size wise go for 21" or above, I say above as I've seen a frame 22", (not sure what it was, but if I find it I'll let you know), typically 21" is about the largest you'll find easily, 21" will suit you perfectly, I ride a 21", it's perfect.

Hi Scrizzatch, I've just posted a string asking these guys on this site what bikes/frames they'd recommend for guys of our stature, check out the replys. One bike I have in mind is the FBM Livewire 21", but it is a little pricey. Good luck

If you could find one, the kink empire revision b is a great frame, great frame.

1. BMX bikes are all 20" bikes and size is typically measured in the length of the top tube and the wheelbase, not height. If you want a taller bike, raise your seat.

2. Almost every pro in the world is in their 20s and is between 5'10" and 6'2" or so. Not a lot of small guys, so you will have no problem at all finding a bike you can setup for your liking.

3. What KIND of riding are you looking to do? BMX racing is a completely different bike from the ground up when compared to freestyle. Jumping doesn't require a light bike, it requires a bike that can handle a harsh bail, flatland has some more specific bikes as well. So what do you want to do?

4. What is your budget? Everyone seems to say about 200 bucks, which really limits some of your choices, but there is some stuff out there.
