It sure does.

Try to put just a little on the chain and not get much on the bearings where the pedals are,or where the rear cog is. If you get to much on either of those places it may ruin the parts inside.
WD-40 also washes out grease.

Spray the chain a little and leave it over night if can.

After a couple of rides, wipe off the chain to get dirt and WD-40 off and switch to some kind of chain lube or oil, if you can. If you have the cash buy a chain lube from a bike shop. If you have to leave the bike outside sometimes a "wet" lube will protect the chain a little more from rust.

after you have dun the wwd40 thing, put dry oil on it to maintain. dry oil is basicly oil that goes on and doesnt make mark on things, unlike your usual oil. and good bike shop should have some

dont use wd40 as a chain lubricant. it will work to clean off the rust, but it really blows as a lube. go to a bike shop and pick up some chain lube, i dont really like the dry stuff, you have to reapply it too often. boeing t-9 is some good stuff.
