Getting my son started.

I have a 10 year old son who was riding some crappy walmart razor bike. He was always trying to jump stuff in the nieghborhood and riding around with his friends. Also watching a little BMX on tv. So i figured its new bike time.I'm a former rider but not anymore. Him being 10 and weighing like 55 pounds I didn't wanna go a buy a super expensive bike. I figure ill spend a few bucks if he can go a couple years with out getting this one stolen or just deciding he doesn't wanna do it anymore. I went to a bike shop and looked around. Bikes started at like high 300's which wouldn't be bad at all if he wasnt 10. Most of the brands I rode I guess aren't even around anymore. I had a gt interceptor then upgraded to a gt speed series when I was older. My brother had a dyno but I saw none of these familure brands. I was also shocked to see they sell mongoose at Walmart. I ended up buying a bike a dick's. It had a lot of features but a brand I never heard of. The salesman said people have been buying em so I went with it.

CG bike co. Venom. It had a gyro, pegs, smaller sprocket and was nice looking

After I got it home I did some research and this company is a ghost. Then a read some bad reviews so back to dicks the bike went. I returned it and figured what's a few more bucks for a brand I heard of. So here is what he ended up with.

2012 Diamondback viper x. It has a gyro, just a rear brake and obviously was a lot lighter

Now I know how forums are so I don't wanna hear I should have bought a $2000 bike because it's "the only" bike that will do. After he gets use to the bike and is doing well I'll start adding some parts to it. I did buy the 1 year warranty just incase diamondbacks aren't as good as they use to be. I was pleasantly surprised with the bike department at dicks for a box store. The guy back there was knowledgeable and was into bikes. Usually it's some 17 year old just there to earn money to party with every weekend. Then run the bike through a full inspection and then he road it to the front of the store for me.

Still not a great bike but should be fine for him. He will grow pretty fast and need a bigger, better one before you know it. What size are the wheels? We sell lots of brands, but Kink and Fit are our most popular, 16" and 18" bikes, right around $300. When you get into a 20", $259 and up to around $900. Build up a custom and the sky is the limit.

It's a 20 inch bike. If he takes care of this one he will get an upgrade. But spending a lot of money on a 10 year olds bike is not a good investment. The bike was $210 and on sale for $190. I paid like an extra $15-20 and got a warranty on it if it breaks. So if it breaks I don't care. I more care about him not leaving it out.
