How bout some old schoolers posting some glory day pics ?

the old Quadangle is here with DX pedals , Flite cranks , Standing Gear forks , and the original vans checkered slip ons .

My only claim to celebrity is the one of Darren Pelio doing a reverse gut lever . We are from the same NH town . One of the nicest guys you could ever meet and although a few years my junior he wound up being one of my heros when he started beating people like Dennis McCoy back in the AFA days .

I'll dig up some more , but hope the over 35 crowd can share some history with the new bunch of heros we see today !

From the wayback. 1979 or 1980. Cro-Mo Mongoose with the cast mags, V bars, coaster brake. COASTER BRAKE! Oh, and checkered Vans.

[edit] I should point out that the Mongoose got stolen (with Skyway's) after this, but that was around the time my brother went to work for Redline. I ended up with a Carrera and 600A that um, fell off the back of a truck.

My mom nearly had a heart attack when she opened the Sunday paper. I just got a cruiser so I can get into it again. Racing is a lot harder than it was when we were kids. You need a scanner!

And resize them too. My neighbor is looking for a PK Ripper for his 5 year old. We talk over the fence while BBQ'ing, (this is Australia) about the good old days. I think he may get into racing too.

Will do ! late night excitability getting the best of me.... I've seen the new PK's and the welding is HORRIBLE ! have your buddy look for an old model made by the original SE if you can . Nice light bike for a youngun' and they made some smaller tubed landing gear forks years ago that were nice for the smaller kids .

Then again , the complete bikes they put out now are a good deal for someone who isn't interested in restoration .

Now , back on topic ..... More pics please old man ! (I'm 40 soon)

Sadly, I think that is the only pic I have. My neighbor wants an old Loop Tail to restore, but let his kid race. That's about AU$1k right now. I crack up at the track when I see the Redline Minis that look like they weigh about 1lb. The littlest guy out there races (ok, rides) a 16 incher, so there's hope for the future.

mtnbiker, got a question for you: Kryptonics or Sims Pure Juice?

Basically, the *****e. Before Tony Hawk was a video game, he rode for Powell Peralta. I had the Caballero with Independents and the PVC on the trucks for grinding.

Anyone have a photo of a Schwinn Scrambler in action, or is that too way back?

those checkered Vans and striped tube socks pulled all the way up make me <snif> nostalgic for the good ole days of whoop-dee-dos and quarter pipes! Thanks for the memories. I might just start perusing the yard sales for some forgotten RedLine.

i skateboard once in a while for fun, but i hate skateboarders. They were at this spot where me and my friends are always riding. they saw us coming, and just looked at us. one of them fell and their board rolled and got in the way when i tried to hit a rail. i grabbed his board and i cracked that **** in half.

Tony Hawk rode for powell when he was a teenager. he started birdhouse and then did a 900, and then activision made a game for him. i don't know why a 900 is so special anyway. its just spinning.skateboarders are so gay

Couldn't agree more.

Mutual respect needs to be had by all and skaters and bikers definitely have the same issues and quite often the same arrogant egotistical attitudes. But, the skills of skaters I think is easily at the same level as bike riders. I have a ton of respect for what those guys can do on a board and am just thankful they aren't all 12 year old fruitbooters. Never understood the skater/biker issues. I rode for 2 years at Freedom Plaza in San Francisco (when it was cool) and got along great with the 20+ skaters that were there every day. Occasional conflicts, but just from those that weren't regulars.

Back in the 70's and 80's we were the original cross trainers. I think a lot of us were into BMX and skating. Seems like today it's one or the other for most kids, and not a lot of tolerance. We were much more laid back then. I hear the pot is much better now, but maybe it's that nasty hydro stuff making them so aggressive/paranoid.

i don't have a problem with older skaters; it's the little kids who just get in the way
