Brake setup.
Ok, most of you know that I got a new frame, but I need to redo the entire rear brakes. I already have the gyro cables and a gyro, but I don't have the brake cables to go to the back brakes, and I don't have the brake or London Mod yet. But I'm already planning on getting some Odyssey Evolvers and that comes with a London Mod, so that's all covered. Now I need to solve my brake cable problems, and this is where I'm stumped. I know I need to get new brake cable, but the brake cables come in 60 inch lengths, and that is going to be way too long. But, at the ends of the brake cable housing (the part that protects and seals the brake wire) there is usually a metal cap with a hole in it where the wire comes out. Well, how are you supposed to trim the cable/wire length?! Wouldn't cutting off that metal cap be a bad thing? And if you do have to trim the plastic part and cut the metal cap off, is there some way to put that metal cap back on the edge after you're done trimming? Or does it even need to be on there? Thanks!

if your doing the duel lower cable/london mod thing, order two Slic Cables. they are dirt cheap. 3.99 at Dans. haha..
the metal cap slips on and off so you can cut the cable housing to length, then slip the cap back on. most cables, the cap is crimped on and is a pain to get on and off. so go with the slic cables.
to cut the cables and housing, first pull the cables out of the housing. cut the housing to length, slide the metal caps on, lube them (order some lube when you order the cables, and a spare tube, patch kit, tire etc to help keep shipping costs down..
)
then slide the cable into the housing and attatch them to your brake arms.
then cut the cables to length. I like to leave a bit extra, just incase.. make sure you put some ends on the cables so they don't fray and get all crappy on the ends.
for what it's worth, I left the metal cap off my cables for YEARS. mainly because they were allways crimped on and didn't want to come off easily....

Ok pnj, thank you very very much. You cleared up everything for me, I really appreciate it. When I ordered, I got all of these things:
2 Odyssey Slic Cables (in red)
1 Bag of Gold cable ends (to keep the wires from fraying)
1 Pair of Odyssey Knarps (so I can adjust the length and attach the ends of the Slics' to my gyro)
1 Cone Wrench set (I've been meaning to get some of these)
And the best part: 1 Odyssey Evolver brake package (in black)
So, what ya' think pnj, sound good? I've heard that the Evolvers from Odyssey are supposed to be one of the best brakes on the market, so, since it included the London Mod and brake pads I decided to go with it. I hope what I've heard about them is true! Well, I'm sure I'll notice a definet inprovment, because I've been riding some cheap Tektros for a year now. So, again, I thank you for your help pnj, I'll tell you how it works out whenever I can.

those parts sound good to me. you don't need the Knarps for you lower cables though.
Slic cables have ball ends on them. so that part goes on your gyro and you'll cut the other end when you cut them to length, after you have them attatched to your brake arms.
those brakes are fine. I personally don't like the looks of them. but they stop as well as any other brake and are very easy to adjust. make sure the arms will pivot freely on the posts without any tension. sometimes there are small burrs on the posts and it will cause the brake arms to not pivot too well. a piece of sand paper can usually clear that up. then put a small amount of lube on the posts. not a bunch, you don't want to attract a bunch of dirt...

No, I have my stock gyro parts from my other bike, I put them on my new frame but I just needed new cables and cable hardware and stuff like that. Why do you ask? Because you wanted to tell me that they have built-in knarps on both of those gyros? Is that why?

they only have Knarps/pinch bolts on the top part. the lower section doesn't need them because you just use the normal ball end part of the cable to hold onto the gyro.

see how the ends of the cables have little bumps?

You use the knarps on the upper cables (unless you're running a GTX or GTX-R, which you're not, because they have built-in ones that use grub screws), not the lower cables, so that you can shorten them.

I already knew that, but thanks for telling me!
