So I bought this bike... *pics*

And it's the shizzle :D

DK Fury, 2004 I think. 24" wheels. Slightly used, the store was selling it for $179 plus tax. Total of $192.

I took it for a test ride in the parking lot, and really liked the way it felt. Thought about it for a while, decided it was too good of a deal to pass up so I bought it. It's bigger than a 'real' bmx, being a cruiser, but it feels pretty small compared to my mountain bike. Feels really 'flickable', to use a term I've heard describing bikes quite a bit :P

So on to the pictures:

So far, it seems like a dang nice bike. The 6061 aluminum sounds and feels different than the A1 on my hardrock, but it's not a bad thing. It's easier to manual on this, but I still can't do it all that well. Bunny hopping is about the same, but it's real easy to flick the back end around and turn in mid-air.
I might replace the chainring, since it looks kinda crappy, and I'll probably get new pedals to replace these wellgo's. It already has Holy Rollers, which are the tires I planned to get anyway, so that's one less step.
I'll pull those reflectors off the pedals, and off the wheel, and put the seat angle down a little later.

It rocks :)

horrible, the only thing i like about it is the chain.... the guys arent going to like this.

CMcMahon 04-08-05 07:15 PM

The toptube on that seems really low for some reason.

MadMan2k 04-08-05 07:39 PM

Beerman: It is, but I won't be using this for long rides where I'll be pedaling from the saddle a lot.

iweargirlspants: well, at least you like the chain.. true, the chain is alright.. :P

I was riding this thing around a bit... I can't bunny hop well, or manual, but it feels pretty cool. The people at the skate park will probably think I'm a poser or something because I have 24" wheels, lol

arboc! 04-08-05 07:41 PM

you should slap a sherman jumper on that bad boy and rip mtb urban style

MadMan2k 04-08-05 07:50 PM

Yeah, lol

I think I'll settle for lowering the tire pressure a bit... a suspension fork would cost like twice as much as the bike, heh

EDIT: Here's a vid of me doing a crappy short manual on the dk:
http://jonbuder.com/videos/manual.wmv

I think I need to look ahead of the bike instead of at the tire so I go farther and don't crash into anything...
Some might nitpick and call that a coaster wheelie, since I did in fact pedal to get the front up.

Why the hell would you take a cruiser bike to a skate park and ride it any way??

Wow, that manual was bad, you put your foot down on the ground.

MadMan2k 04-08-05 09:03 PM

lunchbox: I ride my mountain bike at the park now... why not?
I know the manual was bad, that's why I called it crappy, lol

well around here most of the skate parks, public ones that is, are no bikes!!, me and the people i ride with are cool with most of the skaters at the parks, so they have no problem with us being there. But when some one on walmart bike, or a razor scooter, or whater comes in they get mad and tell em to lave cuz the stuffs not aloud in, so then if they don't leave they'll make fun of them until they do, so i guess it call comes down to how people treat you where you ride.

lunchbox 04-08-05 11:33 PM

Oh and you might want to keep you feet even when you go to manual, not one down and one up, it will help you balance.

Brian 04-08-05 11:58 PM

Isn't the Fury more of a race bike than a trick bike? Ignore the kids, they're a pretty fun bike for the guys that are coming from MTBs to BMX. If you can shorten the chain a link to move the wheel forward a bit, that should help with the manuals, as they chainstays are probably a bit long. I race a 24", so I added a few links to get my wheel back. Either way, for under $200, you'll have plenty of fun on it.

MadMan2k 04-08-05 11:59 PM

Thanks, I'll try and focus on doing that when I try next time.

The park here is pretty laid-back, it's just a section of the public park. Not fenced in or anything, people just kinda hang out there whether they're skating, riding, sitting down, etc. It's not really that busy, either...
On a nice saturday, there tends to be a lot of skateboarders riding on it, but they mainly use the sloped concrete jump thing (I'm not sure what it's called), and not the bowls and halfpipes. Which is a shame, that sloped thing is fun to ride on, but we can take turns on it :P

Sometime I'll have to get photos of the park here, it's pretty fun to spend a couple hours at. And there's food across the street, dairy queen and subway and crap.

EDIT: I'm not really sure if it's a 'race' bike... Danscomp says it weighs 25 lb, but it feels heavier than that. I'm guessing its probably a little tougher than my hardrock in terms of how easily the wheels will bend/frame break/etc. I don't plan on running pegs, so I think it'll be alright until I decide if I want to spend more on a 20" freestyle bike or not.

iweargirlspants 04-12-05 12:42 AM

ya know, MTB is cool until you realize the person riding it cant even do a manual. but if i were to say something nice about you or the bike is i would say atleast you ride it and not claim you ride. also small gearing would be all to fun on a mountain bike.

Yes, because you do a ton of pedaling from the saddle on a BMX bike in the first place.

toyota200x 04-14-05 09:13 AM

Is this the first bike you have rode? That manual was gross.

CMcMahon 04-14-05 10:52 AM

That's not even a manual, it's more of a wheelie.

lunchbox 04-15-05 12:07 AM

Too much san andreas.

OK boys, if you can't play nice, go to time out.

Guest 04-16-05 10:15 AM

All right people... keep it clean. No more insults.

Thanks,
