Anybody play Monster Hunter World?

Steam has it on sale for half price. I buy about a dozen games before I find one I actually like. So buying stuff at full retail would be craaaazy.

So I wait.

Monster Hunter looks like a cross between Skyrim and Borderlands, my 2 fave games.

But it has a rep for being really, really hard. That can be a deal breaker. I don't mind hard, in fact I want it. But some games throw in tons of crap. By that I mean insanely difficult fights, or annoying busywork. I particularly hate timed puzzles. That's a ruined some famous games I would have otherwise liked.

So, buddy, can you spare an opinion? Should I jump on this and ride it like I stole it?

For better or worse, in sickness or in health, I bought it.

May the video game gods have mercy on my soul.

First impression, way too much rpg stuff.

After an hour of mostly watching cutscenes, it was midnight, and time to go to bed. The game wouldn't let me quit. I had to ctrl/alt/delete to get out of the damn game.

I went back over the beginners guide, and I had forgotten they suggested taking everything in the weapons chest. Apparently I may be underequipped.

I haven't given up, but we're not off to a good start. Steam lets you return a game for a few days, I may wind up doing that. We will see how things go this evening.

A lot of games come out of the console world. While this port to the PC is pretty good, I am not a fan of the crazed sword slinging where you have to hit an opponent a dozen times with a 100 pound sword before he has the decency to lay down and die.

I did the first missions and realised most of the game would be to find weird stuff to make weird swords that would kill one particular weird critter.

I had that problem with Skyrim, and wound up using cheat chests to reduce the endless hours of mindless busywork.

Monster Hunter doesn't have that as an option.

I returned it, got a refund. I will say that I don't return cheap crap, I save that for the more expensive games I don't like. And Steam has always come through for me.

Maybe I'll like Borderlands 3 better.

I played a couple of hours in this game, but I did not like it, returned the money. Too much of this anime style. I don't mind anime, but anime 3D doesn't look good

I played monster hunter 3u and 4u on 3ds a few years back, the graphics was pretty bad but it was probably the most fun gaming experience I've ever had. Tried MHW for a couple of hours and gave up, just couldn't get into the game. Skyrim is a great game!!

My first and last Monster Hunter experience was on the Wii U. I couldn't get into it but I'm intrigued by Monster Hunter World. I might have to give the series another shot.
