The Play That Goes Wrong

There is a touring production of The Play That Goes Wrong, right now in Folsom, CA. We saw it, it is a huge crackup. A very small troupe of actors - a drama club from a small university, not entirely friends any more by the time the play starts - attempt to put on a murder mystery, and the set and props break down, they screw up the script, and there are lots of slapstick injuries.

It's originally a British show. The production company with the same actors have appeared as the same "actors" in a few other British productions, Peter Pan Goes Wrong and A Christmas Carol Goes Wrong. The Peter Pan version was done on the BBC a few years ago and it's where we discovered the whole thing. Unfortunately for viewers, it was a one-off live Christmas special and they've never shown it again. But they did a touring production in England last year.

Here's an excerpt

Sounds a bit like Noises Off, a staple of community theater because it's so relatable to participants and fans of community theater.

Reminds me of "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)", which a couple friends and I performed (badly) in high school.
