Top Gun (yes, really -- it was a midnight show at E Street Cinema, who'll be playing Creature from the Black Lagoon -- in 3-D! -- next weekend). Even though it was an original print that had to be spliced together in a few places, and even though the screen wasn't a 30-foot-high Cinemascope behemoth, it's so much better in a theater than it is in a living room. You'd have to spend tens of thousands of dollars to get the same viewing experience at home -- and that's IF you can do it without pissing off the neighbors with the noise.
I don't even know how to rate the movie, actually. It's been spoofed so much since then that all of its clichés stand out even more (sometimes I wondered where the marionette strings went
). But the live-action air combat is somehow more satisfying than any CGI bullcrap can ever be, and more of its lines have invaded our pop culture than people would have guessed. It's a solid enough story, with enough character development (as formulaic as it may be) and good action.

Surrogates - 6... Well, 5. I suppose.
Sheesh.. the more I think about it, the lower its score drops. Fun enough if you're into Bruce Willis (like Sean Connery and Harrison Ford, he can't act, but he's got a good screen presence) and cyber-sci-fi stuff, but if you're looking for it to make a social statement about humanity, you've seen it before.

The Dark Knight - 2 1/2 out of 5 stars.
I was somewhat disappointed. Batman was more of a supporting character, though the title of the movie implies it is "his" movie. It was really all about the Joker (masterfully played) and Harvey Dent (mediocrely played). Batman was kind of annoying in this movie...especially the horribly forced guttural voice he used when dressed as Batman. Christian Bale's performance - Not impressed.

The Informant! - 7/10
Quite good, really. Matt Damon probably made up for his appearance in Team America.
Not sure what to see next. Baader Meinhof Complex looks hot.

The Brothers Bloom. 7/10. Not great, but a fun flick.

Skimming back a bit --
Definitely, absolutely.
For those who don't know, it documented the auditions for the revival of A Chorus Line. I got to see that revival on Broadway (including much of the cast that was in this movie), although I never saw the original movie or musical.
What a fantastic concept. Nothing tells the story of Broadway better -- nothing gets behind the facade with more clarity -- than the stories of the performers themselves. If you've ever been involved in music or theater, or even if the closest you've ever gotten to an audition is a job interview, you will dig this story.

The Informant.
It was ok, and a Matt Damon fan, but it wasn't a favorite for me.
Rate it a 5

Baader Meinhof Complex - oof, what a ride. Hard to rate. The first words onscreen say, "A true story."

6 out of 10 for most of it. The ending plain sucked though (1 out of 10).

yikes, I just caught the tail end of one of the creepiest films I've ever seen. Incredibly disturbing, but I'd give it a 6 based on what I saw (the last half hour or so).
I was shocked to hear Hollywood had remade it, but of course they had to change the ending into the usual BS

Last movie I watched was We Were Soldiers, with Mel Gibson. Not a new movie, of course, but I missed it when it was new. Based on a true story, apparently. Aside from an unconvincing southern US accent on the part of Mel, I thought it was quite good. The action scenes, of which there were plenty, were excellent. Many shots of period aircraft in action, including a Douglas Skyraider in several scenes. Acting was acceptable to good. The scenes depicting events from the Vietnamese POV were well-done.
7 out of 10. Recommended for war-movie fans, though may not have great appeal to others.

Last night we saw The Informant. with Matt Daymon..
The New York Times review called it slapstick.. It was bizarre it had its moments. Slapstick.No.
I'd give it a 6 for content.

Was channel surfing and caught a movie I'd never heard of - "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang". Hilarious noir-spoof with Robert Downey Jr. and Val Kilmer. Crackerjack dialog that makes you rewind many scenes. And - the "finger". Laughed all the way through it. 9 out of 10.

Good Hair - 7-ish. Really quite interesting -- it drew a lot of reactions from the more-vocal-than-usual audience in the theater yesterday.
The September Issue - 7, too. Behind-the-scenes view of the assembly of the Sept 2007 issue of Vogue, which stands as the largest magazine publication in history (840 pages!). One comment I read was that it does for the fashion industry what the same filmmaker's "The War Room" did for politics.

I just saw Where the Wild things are.
I'd give it 3 stars but my girlfriend only gave it half a star. It was a little boring at times but overall I liked it but maybe it was just my nostalgic side coming out as it tends to sometimes.
That's out of 5 stars^^^
