Just watched Lion. Was very good. Heartfelt and real. Thinking I may check out Moonlight next, just to see.

Wonder Woman. Not great but not bad. Gal Gadot was good but the villains and some of the supporting characters, not so much. 7/10

In celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Monterey Pop Festival and Jimi Hendix's triumphant return to the U.S., wife and I watched a Jimi Hendix double feature:
On PBS streaming service, American Masters S27 Ep7 (2013): Jimi Hendrix: Hear My Train A Comin' - Director's C

and on Film Struck streaming service:
Jimi Plays Monterey (1986) a documentary directed by D.A. Pennebaker.

"Tickling Giants"(2016)
9/10.
Documentary about Dr. Bassem Youssef, aka "The Egyptian Jon Stewart".
Alert: Turn on captions. Although the film is primarily in English, since it was filmed in Egypt, there is a lot of Arabic you will need translated unless you can speak it.

IMDB: Tickling Giants (2016) - IMDb

9/10 for being genuinely creepy and for beginning the new-horror move

A Man Called Ove. 10/10. My wife said the book is better than the movie. Fantastic story about a cranky old man. Definite cautionary tale. But he is redeemed.

Batman vs Superman... 1/10 - a complete waste of time. I heard it was bad, but it was much worse than expected. No spoilers, but I found the resolution of the main plot completely ridiculous. Oh Martha...

Finally got to see Wonder Woman. 9/10. Great flick. Gal Gadot is just something else.

Can't wait to see Baby Driver this week.

You and your wife are both correct. Great movie and an even better book.

Gone Girl (2014)
7/10
Starts out as a typical wife-missing-did-husband-kill-her plot, then eventually takes several wild twists.
The ending is rather unsatisfying because the film ends before the story does.

Alien Covenant 8/10. Well put together, interesting story line if a bit less "creepy" that the previous films in the franchise. Worthy follow up for sure.

Wonder Woman 2/10. If ONLY for watching what's her face run around in the outfit. I never expect much from comic films, but this one really took the cake. The action sequences were good, the filming was good, but the story line was ALL over the place with this "we've got a message for you" type tale that just never did it well. They could have cut a good part of the I am woman, let me fix all this injustice angle and made it a much better movie while keeping the main idea that the superhero is indeed a woman. I won't even bother to watch this again.

Doctor Strange 6/10 (10/10) I wasn't really expecting a lot out of this movie either, consider the character sort of a second tier comic, and sort of reaching for a story to film, much like others (ant, tick, etc). Was actually pleasantly surprised at the story line and acting. Like the main character. His flaws and actions are movie predictable but Cumberbach (?) does it well. The parenthesis review is this movie on acid. The special effects are in a hallucinogenic class of their own.

LaLaLand 3/10. Pretty sets, nice clothes; that's all folks. Emma Stone has a voice of stone. Songs and dancing fair at best. Story is dopey. Another dud movie that charmed the doped up and or bought voters for the Oscars.

Much prefer to watch B/W DVDs or Youtube clips of Fred Astaire dancing with anybody, especially Ginger Rodgers and Rita Hayworth, and those movies had no story and terrible singing by Astaire.

Ex Machina (2015)

Unusual movie that takes us through several phases before turning into a ... ( withheld - could be a spoiler ).

I am going to rate this movie 3.5 stars out of five, overall. Story: 4 out of 5 Director: 3 out of 5 (directorial debut) Acting: 3 out of 5.

This was an independent movie, so the lack of a big budget was apparent in spots.

I watched it today for free on Amazon Prime Video.
