This has been a few interesting days. Ive had a tail wind and that is GREAT! For a change yesterday I made 100 miles well really it was 98 and I should have ridden 2 more miles to make it a real 100 mile day but I landed in Golden city. And golden it was.
I started out in Clinton and rode out on Hy 13 a 4 lane going south it had a nice shoulder for about a mile or so then the shoulder stayed there but it deteriorated to un ridable sirface. Seems most of the shoulders here in missoura are like that. I got to say though the drivers here have been very nice gioving a lot of room and not trying to run you off the road. The weather was a l;ittle cooler and less humid. The tail wind was going to get me many miles too.
After 10 or so miles on 13 I got off on hy 52 and into a little town to mail some stuff out. I got talking to the post master a guy about my own age and just as crazy. He was headed the same route in his pick up with his ultra light air craft he built for a fly in just 2o miles from my destination, he would leave at 4:30 pm after work it was 9 am now. HE said if he saw me on the road he would pick me up and give me a life. I didn’t really want a lift but didn’t tell him that. HE told me the road would be flat, of course I heard that too many times to believe it ha ha ha
I was on back roads nice condition no shoulders but very little traffic. After a while I pulled into a bait shop to get a juice Talked to a couple woman going catfishin and declined an offer to go along I wanted to make Golden city today and knew I had a liong way to go.
About noon I was in a friendly town and stopped for some lunch then continued the road got hilly verry hilly but the tail wind was helping attack the hills. Today I about ran out of water and then happened upon a implement dealer that filled my bottles.
Golden city is a very old town still hanging on. There is a grocery and a restraunte famous for pie. In the grocery I got some juice and was directed to the cyclists hostel. I had to call Lowell to come over and let me in. He runs the funeral home in town and him and a partner run this hostile for touring cyclists. What a nice place Air conditioning showers towels kitchen and free washer and dryer. I grabbed a shower and got my stuff in the wash machine then headed to the café for a cup of real coffee.
When I walked in there was an assortment of people in the place pictures on the walls from the old days which seemed like yesterday since not much has changed since the 40’s around here. A fellow invited me to sit at his table and we got into a conversation he lived all his 70 years in the area he insisted on buying my coffee and a piece of the famous pie. I could have eaten there for r if I haddent already bought dinner fixings they had a chicken breast grilled potatoes green beans salad fresh bread and pie for $4.50 oh well.
Went back to the hooch and made dinner and read the log which everyone wqrites in when the stay there I got some good info for the road ahead and left some of my own advice too the price was 15 bucks to stay here I read a couple stayed the night before the wife was riding a bike and the husband is running across the country and pushing a 3 the next day I got up late and didn’t get going riding till 9 am after 35 or so miles I caught the guy running and his wife as the y were taking a break we talked a bit and I took their picture when they got going since I am already 35 miles in and they are gong 35 miles we will end up camping in the same place tonight. Then tomorrow I will most likely be too far in fount of them.
There is more but time is up on the computer in Kansas headed west

Hi George! So great to hear from you. I am no longer getting the little e-mails telling me that you have a new post so I had a few to catch up on! I was really happy you got cooler weather and a tailwind. Must have been nice. Sounds like you're meeting a lot of interesting people out there. The older ones are the most interesting, aren't they? So many life experiences behind them. Boy George, when you're older you will have so much to tell so many.....
Miss ya' and hope you continue to have great days and great experiences!!

Catfish,
Not only are you on the road, having a wonderful adventure, you're inspiring others to continue with theirs (the guy on the recumbent). Keep up the great work and have a wonderful ride!
