Hey its been a few interesting days since I got access. The weather is holding up ok it is cool here at night in the 50’s and during the day only up to the 80’s this area should be over 100 during the day and very warm in the evenings too.

I got caught in another thunder storm I saw a bolt of lightning blast past me almost close enough to reach out and grab it but I thought better of that though. The past 3 days I had a riding partner from new york a woman out on her own for the first tour Wendy she is retired high school teacher . we were keeping the same pace so decided to ride together for a while. In one little town we camped in the city park and it was a new experience for her she was carrying a tent and all the camp gear but usually stayed in motels or big noisy camp grounds so I got to teach someone anew trick and this way of camping is free. I usually stay away from the big towns but these are 150 to 1400 people are just the right size. Of course you kinda eye things up and make you decision.

Yesterday was a brutal day with the wind we took turns drafting off each other but it blew steady in our face. The twon we camped at had one restraint and it was closed for a wek while the owners were on vacation so we took off with just oatmeal and a bagel for breakfast. I was hungry and ate a bagle about 15 miles out with some peanut butter on it that helped for a while but I needed something more substantial. According to the map there wasn’t a town for a long way.

About 12:30 Wendy sp[otted a sign of a town 1 mile off route, we waited at the cross road for someone to drive out to the highway and ask if the town had food there. We didn’t know since the population was 73. a car stopped and told us yes there was a reastraute they had a big grain elevator so the drivers would have a place for lunch. We rode into town and found the place. Got some cold water and a raost beef and gravey lunch and banana cake for desert. I felt like a nap after that but needed to keep pushing into the wind. We got into a town and were going to camp at the city park this one had a pool so we could get a shower as a bonus. Luck would have it we spotted a $24 motel on the way to the park so we split the cost of the room 12 dollars each including tax

Today we split up since I wanted to go out of the way to this town and visit the national barbed wire museum and she wanted no part of that so we said happy pedals and moved on. That’s thet way of the road things happen fast and for a reason.

So now I am about to visit this national barbed wire museum and spend the night in this town of La Crosse Kansas.

Man I was looking at the map this morning and see that in a few days I should be in Colorado, the a few more days in the mountains CLIMBING I plan to spend a day or two extra in pueblo to work on the bike get a new seat and maybe a better tent that is lighter
