Looking forward to my first Tour de Cure
I'll be riding my first century in Napa next month with the Tour de Cure. While I decided to ride it as a solo thing, I managed to get a team together at my work which has swelled to 13 riders and is number 10 in fundraising for this event, something which is far beyond my wildest expectations. I saw this sub-forum and thought that I would encurage others who are reading this to sign up for the event in their own areas, or sponsor me.

Excellent job getting co-workers to participate, rather than just donate.

I just participated in the Sarasota Tour de Cure and did my first century. The ride was awesome! They organized it really well and had great signage for the ride.

that is awesome!? How did you get people to join? was it just pure interest or are they experienced. I've always had a hard time motivating friends and family (who are in shape) to participate when its a sport they are not really into... any advice?
oh and good luck BTW! haha |
It helps that a lot of the people who work with me already ride, at least for commuting. Beyond that I put up fliers, and harassed people personally. I got my work to pay for custom jerseys, so that was another perk that I was able to offer people.

Wow, getting 13 people together is quite a feet. I'm doing the same ride solo, see you there.

Jeff, excellent graphic in your sig. You should hook the OP up with one.

Note: I do not have permission from the ADA or TdC to use their graphics this way, and even though I don't think they'd mind, be prepared to pull it if asked to do so. |
Hey Nullius, you're going to love the ride. My wife has done the century for a few years now while I run the rest stop out at Fieldstone Winery. It's a great route for a first century and we try to take good care of the riders. Now if we could just get your team sponsors to get some samples out to the rest stop ... :D
Say "Hi" when you get to my stop (you'll come through twice). I'll be the big guy in the tuxedo t-shirt. |
Thanks, I'll be the thirsty, sweaty, tired looking guy in Lycra ;). I look forward to meeting you.
