St. Louis - Mystery Bike Tour at Creve Couer Park April 18th, 2010 - benefits DASA
Hello everyone,
I'm new to the forum, and a new cyclist as well. I started riding with my husband, who rides a hand cycle (and is also in a wheelchair), this past summer. We're both involved with a non-profit organization, Disabled Athletes Sports Association (DASA). They help children with physical disabilities get involved in sports "and find the 'ABILITY' in their disability".
They are a really great organization, they help a LOT of families, and the DASA team is amazing. (You can find more about DASA at their website, www.dasasports.org)
I'm helping them plan a Mystery Bike Tour: "From Here To Where?", at Creve Couer Park on Sunday, April 18th
The ride will benefit DASA and is also to kick off my husband Allen's charity bike trip - he is hand cycling from St. Louis to Washington D.C. on April 28th, 2010, also to benefit DASA, and to raise awareness for his disease, Friedreich's Ataxia. (You can find more out about Allen, his story and his trip at www.FromHereToThere2010.com)
I wanted to invite anyone who'd like to ride, or volunteer! It's only $25 to register in advance, or $30 the day of. To register in advance, call DASA at 636-477-0716.
Registration is at 8:30am near the Lake House, and the ride begins at 9:00am.
The mystery ride will consist of three routes - you will receive your route upon arrival that day. The routes are 3 miles, 6 miles, and the longest route's distance is being worked out this weekend. But it shouldn't be too bad. This is a nice quick ride through one of the most beautiful parks in the St. Louis area. This is also a great event for novice riders who maybe aren't ready to jump into a 30 or 50 mile ride for their first event. But there will be plenty of local, regular cyclists there as well. It's also a great opportunity for those that would like to meet the DASA team and some of the DASA kids or for families that might like to try out some of the adaptive sporting equipment. If you know someone who might be interested for any of these reasons, please pass along the invite. You can also find our Facebook page for the Mystery Ride here.
We will also have a company on site with their adaptive sports equipment, such as hand cycles, racing wheelchairs, etc., and people will be able to try them out. Children's Hospital Safety Stop group will also be on site doing helmet fittings for free. There will be lots of other fun things going on also. The more people, the more fun. I hope some of you can join us!
If you'd like to volunteer instead , just send me a private message.
Thanks so much!
