Gravel Grinder for Wounded Warrior Charity

Hello all,

Sorry for the long message, but I wanted to explain a bit about the charity I am riding for. On saturday, September 13th, I am competing the Pisgah Monstercross as a fundraiser for The Semper Fi Fund, a 501-C(3), non-profit, wounded warrior charity with a 4 star rating from Charity Navigator. The race is a 70 mile race through western NC with 40 miles on gravel and dirt forest service roads. The race itself is not a fundraising event, but I am using it as an opportunity to fund raise for a great cause. This is my first time ever doing an event like this, and the first time doing fundraising like this. 100% of your donation will go to the Semper Fi Fund (not my racing or training expenses), all donations are tax-deductible, and donations can be completed via a secure website with a credit or debit card. THERE IS NO MINIMUM DONATION AMOUNT!

The Semper Fi Fund is a charity started by several Marine Corps spouses that specializes in granting financial assistance to active duty members of all five branches of the armed forces and their families. The fund specifically deals with service members who have been critically wounded while on active duty after September 11th, 2001. The Semper Fi Fund provides grants to these service members and their families to cover many expenses that the government is not able to.

The grants come in many forms, but most frequently go towards renovating housing for disabled service members with special needs, adaptive controls for cars, specialized medical equipment, and athletic prosthetics. The fund also provides grants for the travel expenses of family members while their loved one is undergoing specialized medical care or hospital treatment away from home so that the family can travel together. These are all things that people are frequently surprised to find that the government usually does not pay for. The government might pay for an amputee to get a basic prosthetic leg so that they can walk, but not one that allows them to run, swim, cycle, or play sports again. The Semper Fi Fund fills these shortfalls so that veterans and their families can not only get through the initial hardships caused by their injuries, but find a way to have a second chance at enjoying the kind of life they love.

The fund does not conduct any direct fundraising, nor do they accept any federal assistance. They rely solely on community athletes doing events like mine, charitable donations, and other volunteer fundraising events. This allows the fund to maintain an overhead of only 6%, one of the lowest of any of the major charities in the country.

I tell you all of this so that you can see the impact that your donation will make. For every dollar donated, approximately 94 cents will go into a grant that will go to a wounded veteran or their family. The vast majority of the money you donate does not go towards research or awareness, but towards changing the life of an individual who has already sacrificed their health and well-being while serving our country. Every donation will directly help a wounded service member or one of their family members to be able to have a better quality of life, or in some cases, get access to critical medical equipment, all at no cost to the service member.

Like I said earlier, there is no minimum donation amount, and every bit makes a difference. Below is the link to my donation page. If you want to donate via check, please PM me, and I will get you all the information that you need. Please feel free to share this with any of your friends or family who might be interested. Thank you!
