Boston Hub on Wheels September 20-21, 2014
This is a great ride, well run and you get to safely bike and see parts of Boston you will really enjoy and likely haven't seen before.
Proceeds go to Boston Schools. Between the ride and the festival on City Hall Plaza, you will love it.
Hub on Wheels and Mayor's Cup 2014
Here are excerpts from my post in the Metro-Boston thread:

Hub on Wheels and Mayor's Cup 2014
Here are excerpts from my post in the Metro-Boston thread:
My favorite bicycling event is Hub on Wheels next weekend. .. Riders get a chance to ride all over cool parts of Boston in safe but not over crowded routes. Riders come in all shapes and sizes and no one takes it as their fantasy Tour de France; no grim faced peletons. ...
The 10, 30 and 50 mile routes start at City Hall out on Storrow Drive shut down for the riders. Depending on which route you'll see Arnold Arboretum, StoneyBrook Reservation, Neponset River, Forest Hills, Franklin Park, UMass and HarborWalk and end at a festival of food, vendor booths, giveaways and entertainment at City Hall Plaza.
Saturday I ...may just watch the MetroBoston version of NASCAR racing around City Hall called Mayors Cup Criterium. 200 Professionals racers in the final race of the USA Cycling National Criterium season and high end amateur racers as well. As a meandering tourist I've no experience in racing but it is fascinating being a few feet from the races and chatting with professional athletes ....

This was my first hub on wheels. Very nice event. Riding on car free storrow drive was fun!! I did the 50 mile route, my computer finished with 47.5miles. other than the 4-5mile stretch after the 2nd rest point until the ocean, well chosen route. only in that small stretch I didn't feel safe riding in traffic, too many red lights, stop signs, cars coming close to the cyclists. But overall I had fun. Perfect weather, some might call it too hot but better hot than rainy cold weather. Rider of all kinds were there. Families with young kids, lance Armstrong wannabees, seniors, etc. very well organized, marked trails, Rest stops, city helping to control traffic on main roads, etc. As long as the weather is good this will be a must attend ride in the future too.
