1982 Trek 736 12 Speed
Hi all!
First time poster. I am considering this Trek for purchase and am wondering what the opinion is of the pro's
Right now I have a Trek 7200 Hybrid, but I want to move onto a road or racing bike.
Here is the description:
Low miles. 62cm Frame
Suntour Superbe brakes and rear derailleur
Campagnolo Nuovo Tipo hubs and 700c Rigida rims
Cinelli bars and Stem
SR Laprade seat post are all original and in great condition
Selle Italia Turbo Matic saddle with titanium rails is in good condition for it's age (early '90s I think)
Suntour bar end shifter (originally had downtube shifters) are in good condition
Front derailleur was changed to a Shimano (Sora I believe) at some point
Not sure of the vintage of the tires but they look to be in good condition
He is asking $375.

Hello and welcome to the forums. I am not Trek expert but I know the older ones are sought after so $375 may not be a bad deal for this depending your location. Does it fit? Does it need mechanical work? When was it last overhauled? (all parts take off frame cleaned, everything cleaned and regreased as it was reassembled)
It looks big are you sure it fits comfortably correctly?

736 is going to be more on the "racing" side of the Trek lineup that year. Looks to have Reynolds 531 all around so that is desirable. Can't go wrong with a classic Trek if it fits and is in good shape. I have 2 and and don't regret the purchases at all. My 910 is an outstanding bike and I will likely keep it forever.

If the bike fits, that's a fair deal. Trek catalogs are online: https://www.vintage-trek.com/images/trek/Trek3.pdf
Vintage treks are highly sought after bikes for good reason and this is a very high end racing bike for its day with a full reynolds 531 frame and high end parts.

Thats a rad bike, if it runs and fits, you have a pretty decent buy there. big frames like that sometimes fetch a bit more.

That's a fairly good deal on a vintage 700 series Trek with fairly nice components. The only likely issue I see is size that's a fairly big frame with somewhat aggressive suitble for an athletic rider 6'2-4" or so, which is likely holding the price down buy $100 or more. I would check it out and see if it fits with no issues it would should be a good buy.

That's a huge frame, looks much larger than 62cm. How tall are you? I suppose it doesn't matter, you'll find out the first time you try to stand over it.
