Hi folks,
Please let me say hi, first post. Not only my first post but I haven't had a schwinn for decades! Please excuse my lack of knowledge I apologize in advance.

Here is a picture of 14 older bikes in pretty rough condition. All are in need of tires tubes and several need wheels. But overall they appear to be fairly complete?
I asking if they are of any value and to who would be most likely to want them? Your guidance and help is greatly appreciated!

1. I see several that are not Schwinns. Most of those should be donated to the charity of your choice.

2. The remaining pile are projects: rusty, crusty, need a log of work. Around here, they might bring $25 each as is, could take a while. Or sell as a lot for $100.

Without pictures of each individual bike, I can't really judge them all. But the ones I can see do not look like anything special.

Generally, bikes in that condition need a lot more than just tires. They will need new cables and housings, freewheels serviced, new chains, bb, hubs, and headsets torn down, cleaned and rebuilt, perhaps replacement pedals and saddles, rust dealt with, etc. Unless you have the time/tools/aptitude/pile of parts, better to sell them to someone that does, as you will be upside down on each one of them.

If any of the Schwinn drop bar bikes have three piece cranks and cromoly frames, those would have more value.

Most of them if they need wheels as well, become parts donors. Someone might buy four to make two decent bikes out of them.

Hi wrk101, Wow Thanks for the quick reply, this forum moves quickly, I would agree with your assessment. The lot is half Schwinn the other half off name brand, I can list? Who would be most interested in buying them even at a low "wholesale" price? Where would I find the cromoly markings?

Not sure what the question is. but if you are looking for a rider, that Continental looks like it cold be good for that. I take bikes like that put tires on them refurbish them in about 3 hours and have a nice rider.
all those other ones are very rough, a waste of time, other than taking some seats, grips

Speedster, although it is rough, rough, rough, does have some desirable 3 speed parts and the two Continentals could be made into acceptable bikes.

I'd put the adult bikes as a "barn find" as a single lot on your local C/L. $100 might be a stretch, depends where you live.

Unless you have the skills and a pile of parts, you will lose money on these bikes if you try to fix them up. Better off handing them off to someone in as found condition (getting some cash in return).

The one kid's bike, the purple one, appears to be a 3 speed as well. Super rough, but if it is a Sturmey Archer hub, there's some value there. Anyone who wants the Speedster for 3 speed parts would probably be interested in anything else with 3 speed rear hub.

I don't see anything cromoly.

Also decide what your time is worth. Waiting around for C/L no shows can be a PITA.

Knock the dirt off for sure first. Line up the adult bikes in a staggered line, take a few pics, and you have your barn find lot.

I drag off peoples junk bikes.... alot of them are in about the same condition.... some vintage most not vintage....it sometimes takes me upto parts from 4 or more bikes to make a good one..... I have picked up 27 bikes so far this year... the 2 awesome scores I kept for my self... a 91 trek 800 that didnt need much and a 1972 schwinn varsity...... most of the rest were dept store specials or too gone to be worth fixing... like a ladies western flyer from the late 60's or 70's... was hit by a car and bent the frame and crank... used parts from that one to fix a huffy 3 speed and I put the fenders from it on my trek that I turned into a commuter

You're in an affluent county, so I don't see a market for them, unless the Amish farmers want one.

Donate them to the Philadelphia or Trenton area local bike not for profit and get a receipt for your charitable deduction.

We have a guy the town calls "the bike man". He has a row of dozens of bikes outside morphing into a glob of rust and neglect. I say "donate". Try to make someone happy if possible (that's what bikes are for).
