'96 Specialized vs. Vintage Cannondale SR500 vs '13 Defy vs '11 Novara

Looking at 4 bikes. Im not afraid of downtube shifters on Cannondale. Will be used as a starter road bike... something to ride for Central Park exercise and 20-30 mile weekend rides.

Leaning Specialized right now (which is why I put this in the Vintage forum) but appreciate opinions.

Thanks!

Cannondale looks good, Shimano 1051 7 speed is bulletproof. Those are fast, reliable bikes, and I use mine with 6 speed 1050 on fast club rides.

I'd give that Specialized a close look, especially as it is 25% less than the other bikes and is steel. The opinions on the Sachs drivetrain are generally favorable.

Pretty sure the Specialized M2 is aluminum. Those are some fatty tubes and welds for steel.
