Bike Vitus "Hoocker"

Hi there,

Is this bike any worth?

The guy who sells it says it's VITUS... I guess 979 or less? It's aluminium, right? I've always have steel bike... Don't know about it.
All made in France, group Shimano 105, wheels Rigida and Mavic.

The guy is asking for 200 bucks. I can lower it to 180.

Is it a good bike for that price?

Thanks a lot, as usual!

Getting a Hooker for $180? Just get her between your legs and it should be a helluva ride!

Check the bonded aluminum lugs carefully. If it fits, a Shimano 105 bike for $180 is a great deal

Many of the Vitus aluminum frames had a reputation for being a bit flexy. I'm not sure about different models.

Take the bike for a test-ride to make sure it fits and you like the feel of it.

As oddjob2 says, $180 sounds like a good deal. Oh, with indexed brifters too. Go for it

As long as you're not breaking any local laws, go for it.

The mono-stay indicates it is a Vitus 787 Futural, as opposed to a 979. Regardless, I concur that $180 is a great price, provided there are no major issues.

That is a very good deal on a 105 level bike. As for the frame it is carbon fiber main tubes bonded to aluminium it should be fine and ride nice.

IIRC, the 787 is an all aluminum frame, no CF......
The CF "Carbone" frames from Vitus from that era, did not have a wishbone stayed rear end. The tubing decal is still on the frame, near the shifter bosses. The OP can confirm with the sellerwhether it says "Vitus Futural 787", which denotes aluminum main frame tubes, or "Vitus Plus Carbone", which denotes CF main frame tubes.

its very surprising if the main frame is not carbon- why have raw aluminum everywhere else then paint the mainframe black? but i guess stranger things happen.

Not unusual for Vitus, as they did that on their 979 frames. The ones painted satin black at the main tubes are often mistaken to be Vitus "Carbone" frames......
They also have unfinished aluminum lugs and headstocks....
