Bridgestone RB-T

So this was a build I did over the winter. Was destined to be a keeper but now I have something in the works that will be similar. Not sure if I'll want to part with it regardless but if you were to put a price on it, what would it be?

I've looked at sold eBay listings but there's not a ton of RB-Ts out there and most were different enough to not be a great comp. I live in a pretty hot local CL bike market (Minneapolis/St. Paul) if that makes a difference but there's certainly a ceiling for some bikes.

As far as what's been done, bike was taken down to the frame only then frame saver was applied. Original components. All bearings replaced, wheels trued. New consumables. Proper stem. Brooks may or may not go with it depending. Paint and decals are likely in better condition than most of these out there. I know what I have into it and it is what it is from there. Just want to get an idea on a rough number to see whether it would be worth making it available down the line.

FWIW I've seen the bike. It's got to be the nicest example of these out there.

Hard to imagine a person buying a new Cross Check when they could have this RB-T.

If it were mine, I would have to get $800 plus.

That will be a fairly good trick on our CL though.

It's junk pickers heaven.

This bike is beautiful. I saw it when you first posted the pics on this. It is not a $800 bike though. You can get a top end vintage touring bike in good shape (a Miyata 1000, a trek 720, etc) for less than that.

I'd ask for $500 and stick to it. You'll find the right buyer in a large city.

Not a nice 720 in the Twin Cities. $1,200 plus for the two I sold.

Granted, they were gorgeous. Both sold at our Blaine Swap two years ago.

As for the RB-T, the Brooks, condition, Soma Vitesse tires at $60 a pop etc make it more than $500.

I'd let it hang on a hook for $500 before I would give it away.

$500 is not giving it away. This bike has seamed chrome moly tubing not reynolds 531 and RX 100 components. This is a great bike which is in A 1 shape. It is also not a top shelf touring bike.

I sold my '91 in the cities for $350 about a year ago. It wasn't even close to being in as nice a shape as yours. It had Suntour XCE components.

Dude, that bike's so hot I need to wear welding goggles just to look at it. Yowza! Don't take less than $750 for it.

I think it is and I wouldn't accept a $500 offer.

Others might.......

I hear you.

I also know this bike. I worked on a shop when they were being sold. I own a 1993 Bridgestone XO-2 which replaced the '92 RB-T in the line up (and the RB-T came out again in '94). Pretty much the same frame (decent stuff, seamed chrome-moly tubing) and component group. I like my bike a lot. It rides great.

The RB-T is also not a top tier touring bike. It is a mid-level bike in terms of the frame and parts and it also happens to be in great shape. To my mind, $800 should buy you more bike than this.

But what the heck some folks love bridgstones and it's worth whatever a buyer wants to pay for it; maybe your price is the market price.

I would thin you should be able to get $500-600 for this bike. It may take a while to find the right buyer who is willing to pay the $200 or so condition premium this bike deserves most of the time you see these Bridgestone Tourer's there rather beat up from being road a lot.

One piece of advice would be, to maximize the value, swap out the Brooks for some decent $30ish lightly used saddle, and either keep the Brooks or sell it separately for $100 or so.

Thanks everyone.

Like I said, I have no idea if I'll end up putting it out there. I understand I can pull things back from it to maximize the return. For now, it'll do what I intended for it to do when I built it up. As for the $500 number, I know I can do better in this market given what I've already moved on at that price point.

This is just a range of valuations; you know your market and you know your price. There was considerable agreement--which is rare on this list--on the higher price.

I spent a fair amount of time looking around in the vintage touring bike market. You've got a beautiful build there and I absolutely agree, $750-800 isn't outlandish in the least, albeit to the right buyer. I've seen similar sales across CL and the auction sites for more. The RB-T has a following. I don't recall seeing one this nice and of all the lesser condition bikes that I did see, they always sold for close to $500. I agree with gomango, if you sell it, stand by your price or hang onto this beauty and enjoy it yourself!

Ride it sparingly, like a classic car, if anybody asks, tell them it would take $**** (high price) to sell, it's just that good.
I would surely keep it, beautiful color combinations.

Very nice bike...like others, I would say the $700 to $800 range...when I had one of these, it rode as good as my Miyata 1000...so, while it may not be considered to be on that par, it sure rode like one. Also, in the last year, I have sold two of these frames for > $300, if that helps. That was on eBay with shipping not included.
