Schwinn Traveler 80'
Acquired this 1980 Schwinn Traveler this weekend from it's original owner for only $15. It's almost complete except for a missing pulley on the rear derailleur and no chain. I'm not sure how hard the vintage pulley would be to replace. Is it worth the effort to do a full restore/flip or should I just convert it to a single speed commuter? Also, any guesses as to the size?
Any and all info/suggestions welcome, Thanks.

That's a nice basic entry level road bike fairly nice hi-ten Japanese lugged frame with pretty basic components. In good ready to ride shape these are worth about $150-200 as presented this one is worth about $75-100. It is well worth fixing up these make nice riders. As for the RD you can pic up a nice vintage Shimano 400 or 500 to match the one on the bike for 15-20$ or buy a similar level new DR like an Altus for about the same price.

Still learning
A pair of Kenda gumwalls, a Bell cable set, and a Sunrace derailleur will set you back all of $40. Well worth it.

That would look beautiful with upright handle bars & a rear rack for panniers.

Thanks for the info and suggestions gents. I've decided to try and restore this bike to as original as I can get it and make it my weekend sunny day downtown DC cruiser. New chain and tires are on its way from Ebay. Now just trying to find a suitable replacement rear derailleur.
Question, will the existing friction stem shifters work with a more modern 6 speed shimano SIS rear derailleur (removed from an 88' Worldsport)?

Yes the friction well work pretty good with just about all Shimano Dr's.
