Peugeot PL8M 63 can anyone help identify?
Hi
I recently found a Peugeot racing bike at a sale and really liked it despite the pedals not working! and general wear and tear, so I decided to buy it and it can be a bit of a project to get it up and running again.
I'm new to older bikes and i''ve been trying to identify the model through Cycles Rétro-Peugeot there are a few PL8's on there but I'm still struggling to identify mine, the full code at the bottom of the bike reads '2842799 PL8M 63' followed by '124' engraved into the bike, does this mean it is the 1963 PL8? that would be great!

Also do different names of parts mean they are not original?
brakes - weinmann
pedals - solida
rims - rigida 700c and super champion
the frame also has 'carbolite 103 tubing'
thanks for reading and any information/help would be greatly appreciated
thanks again
George

That bike is way newer than 1963 by about 20 years it's from around 82/83 or so based on components and paint, the 63 refers to the size which would be 63 cm, PL8-M is the model designation, I'm pretty sure these were sold as the Nomade in most markets. The bike appears to be in good condition and mostly original except for the mismatched wheel.

Hi,
thank you very much for the info, yes I thought it was to good to be true haha, on the Cycles Rétro-Peugeot website the latest PL8 is 1976 so why is this one from around 82/83? sorry for the probably stupid question!

Peugeot didn't start using the the Peugeot branded brakes or crank on lesser models and the 103 carbolite designation on the tubing tell the 80's. Also they didn't start using alloy clincher wheels on most models till the 80's. A lesser 70's Peugeot would likely have a steel cottered crank and Mafac brakes with steel 27 inch wheels. Also I can see what appears to be the Black plastic lion head badge which was only used around this time for a couple of years.
