Which 10 speed to keep?
Hello dear friends,
I have two 10 speed vintage bikes and I need to decide which to keep and which to sell. I bought 1 recently then my dear friend gave me his, which was stored indoor for a while.
Bike 1. Norco Monterey
- recently tuned up
- recently put on new handle bar tape
- padal is metallic and very shiny
- AR front and rear derailleurs
Bike 2. Miele - can't tell the model name
- not tuned up
- no handle bar
- SIS front and rear derailleurs
- fork doesn't look it belongs..?
I have a Trek FX 7.3 for daily and as my work hourse. Vintage road bike is my leisure hobby.
Would you advise me which is better and perhaps an explanation for why?
I'm in Toronto area and would you be able to tell me their market value?

They're small frame bikes. Good for female riders. Would make nice townies. Even in a hot Toronto market they're not worth $100 each. Keep the one with the best wheels. Looks like the Miele to me.

While the Miele is actually a nicer bike I would say keep the Norco mainly based on condition it is basicaly ready to ride with a little bit of clean up and service. While the Miele needs a lot of work and most of the drive train replaced. It is still a very nice Canadain built small frame in a nice color so you should be able to get $150 or so in the US and and 200 CAD up north.

Judging by the head tubes, they seem to be pretty similar in size. If they both fit and the frames are in comparable physical condition, I'd lean toward keeping the Miele. For one, I just think the Miele's a handsome bike. But it also has forged dropouts and brazed-on shifter mounts, which are aren't typically found on bottom-tier frames. The chrome fork could very well be original -- it wasn't unusual for bike makers to include a fully chromed fork with a painted frame. If the Norco uses a claw-type rear derailleur mount, then I'm 100% sold on the Miele.
Parts for either bike should be inexpensive -- that's one of the nice things about working on older bikes -- but if you're averse to turning your own wrenches and need to pay someone to do your work, that might shift the equation in the Norco's favor to some degree if it's more ready to ride.

Great advice guys. I think I'm going to sell Miele since it needs work whereas Norco was just serviced and ready to ride. I love the look of Miele but I don't want to spend more on them.

FYI, the Miele is a Uno MS Road Issue, which was their entry level model, circa 1990.

Hello from T dot. The internal cable routing grommet on the top tube of the Miele looks like it's broken and will end up letting water in the frame depending on how its been built. Don't forget the bike computer too!
