'75 Schwinn Paramount Track Bike?

This was my father's Schwinn Paramount Track Bike. It used to be white. I think the bottom bracket broke and was replaced and repainted. My father claims that never happened. He's 83, and usually sharper than I am, but it seems strange that the bottom bracket has "Cinelli" on it. Not sure why the crank is installed on the wrong side either...I guess it can be reversed? Not sure I want to sell this because it reminds me of my dad riding this thing in the street and his legs churning like a madman when he was going down hill. I am curious if it has any value? I'm guessing the lack of a name plate and the repaint kill a lot of the value.

Maybe why he was churning downhill like a madman was because it's a fixed gear? If so, it'll work just fine that way with the opposite-side crank. Certainly weird, though.

Lots of Paramount experts here can chime in on the bb. I love track bikes and would love to own a Paramount track one day. I vote you keep it. Yes, fixed gear bikes are a blast to ride but there is the downhill issue! Glad there is a front brake, very practical and smart. Keep it in the family, I say. A lot of the collectible value is lost but it rides just the same. Many of the original components are gone and would cost a tidy sum in themselves.

+1 for keep it in the family.

To me, there are a lot of things on there that hurt the monetary value. But you know all the stories about the BB and re-paint and stuff like that. High in sentimental value.

My son lives in the city and wants a new "city bike". I was thinking about converting this to a city bike for him. New wheels? freewheel instead of fixed? new saddle? maybe a different front fork?

Any suggestions?

Absolutely not. If it were stolen, you lose a piece of family history. Build/buy him something more appropriate. Just my opinion.

I'm with John on that. Want a city bike? Pick up a cheap mountain bike, add north road bars and narrower tires, and roll on.

Did the bottom bracket break? Or did the bottom bracket shell break/crack? And why wouldn't Paramount have fixed it?

The fork looks bent to me.

Wasn't there a discussion a few years ago about the left side chainwheel setup? Didn't someone mention a BMX FW that could be put on the left side?

Fork does look bent or the steerer itself bent. Top and bottom tubes look OK, so if it was a collision it only affected the fork. Fork also doesn't match the Paramount fork on my Paramount road bike, but maybe it is correct for the track bike.

Update: Did a quick search and found at least three and probably four different fork crowns on Paramount Track bikes including the one in the OP's pics. So it appears correct.
