Battaglin

Scooped up this Battaglin today. The owner said he bought it new in CA around 1999, but it seems like the DT shifters and 600 tricolor components suggest otherwise. Frame is Columbus, 56cm square (not my size), paint is a little rough in some spots. Other components include Dura Ace aero seatpost and nice Concor Super Corsa saddle. The front wheel is Campagnolo laced to Dura Ace, rear is unmarked hub to MA40. Modolo handlebar, Look pedals.

Any thoughts on the vintage and model? This one will need a new home, as it is pretty short for me, but the price was right.

I have the same bike in Red. Cromor, tsd sticker, and 600 (when I got it)

Probaby 1987 ish.

Overall, very nice bikes - I've owned mine since 1996.

I know --- ive experienced color discrimination many times in my life

I shop at Marshalls a lot (a budget oriented re-seller ) --- so recently I was wearing some gym shorts that were the Volunteers subdued orange---
-- I bought them because they were orange - only reason -

My brother asked me if I was on my way to Knoxville because my clothes sucked (to be fair, I didn't think it was that egregious an orange shade, and I still have the shorts, although I only wear them to sleep in now)

2nd was when I had my divorce last year - and bought a Corvette to recover (a 2nd hand 2011 model ) -- I bought it because it was "Atomic Orange" -- which is kind of a burnt orange/copper type of shade which I loved ------- I love the car, love the color, but now I get quips at alumni association meetings on whether I am on the way to Austin or not , (as the color is reminiscent of the TX franchise) --

C'est LaVie'

That bike's color is closer to an OSU shade than a UT shade though to be sure--- I love it --- the 600 bits and pieces seem to cross 2 generations though so someone (maybe the shop owner) may have pieced it together from a frameset back then ----- the crankset looks older than the tri color bits everywhere else

.
...for some reason, Tri bikes always seem to sell at a discount here, too.
I think maybe they belonged to runners who didn't much enjoy biking, but needed to do it for the races.

This is exactly the story the man that sold it to me gave me. Had some sort of injury that prevented him from running, so he took up biking. He said he put a lot of miles on this one though.

It was a perfect storm for a deal to be made. There was a sold sign in the front yard, and he told me he just had a grandchild earlier in the day, so he was in good spirits.
