Tommasini
Hey guys, Live in Malawi here and found what i believe is an amazing steal.
A Tommasini Premier Alloy Extra frame - retails for $2500??
I picked this full bike up for $70 or 60,000 Malawian Kwacha in 'Zomba' (a place) Literally in the bush. Totally wrecked components and not looked after - The handlebars were double wrapped with car tire tubes! - levers held together with steel wire, running on flat tires. only thing salvageable is the frame, seatpost, forks and handlebars - frame had a stripped and bent hanger. It was kitted out with a Campy 9spd Daytona and Scirocco G3 wheels.
Importing Campy Zonda c17, Veloce groupset and a few other things.
Total spent is around $600 on all the parts and the weight is an estimated 15lbs downwards. What would you say guys? Parts still being shipped - but is this a good deal?

I would have tried for 59,900 Kwacha. The seller expects some negotiating so he starts with a high price. Post some photos. I have GOT to see this.

Thanks for your interest - He started out with 250,000 but I pointed out a few things and he was happy with 60. He obviously knew nothing about bikes or about maintaining them atleast. Luckily its previous owner had prepared it well for this. Carbon fork & seatpost - not seized although the front caliper was a bit stuck.

...Malawi always shows up as a destination in all those Bikes for Africa donation programs.
It's interesting that the people who run whichever program would send something like this out into the bush there.
Otherwise it seems a little bit like a moon rock found in Peoria, Illinois.

Also somebody wasn’t gonna take no for an answer making that Schraeder valve fit through that presta hole. Have fun with the rehab, looks like a good bargain!

Is that an aluminum frame? If so, that derailleur hanger may require something more than a crescent wrench.

Yes, it's aluminum based on the size of the welds and appears to be Columbus Altec2 or Altec2 Plus, which places it circa 1998 to mid 2004 while Daytona, if OEM, places it 2000-2001. Agreed, straightening the hanger may be an issue.

Guys, i'm confused now - a sticker on the frame states "Columbus Zonal" when I search that up, it shows frames not that similar to what I have.

That is the brand of the raw tubing used to make the bike. Many different manufacturers used zonal tubing, but custom tuned it for their needs with different shapes and diameters in some cases

When you do your search, does it come up with "Zona" or "Zonal"? The former was a Columbus steel tubeset, while the latter was an aluminum tubeset. Also, the Zonal tubeset came with a number of different cross-sections besides the standard round tubes. There was a diamond shaped Megatube option for the top tube and teardrop shaped Megatube options for the top and down tubes. So, if you saw a standard Zona or standard Zonal frame, it could look quite different from yours, which appears to have the teardrop shaped Megatube options for both the top and down tubes. Attached is a chart showing the Megatube options for Zonal.
