What is this Lotus worth?

I have a 1984 Lotus Unique in excellent condition. It has Suntour BL components with 27" wheels. Any ideas of the value?

A lot depends on your area but I sold a larger frame version of that bike about 8 months ago here with all Shimano 600 bits also with 27" wheels for $350, it was listed for about four months before it found a home. I had a lot of lesser offers but I held to my price and got it.
The bike I had was two tone blue and in mint condition from 1986.

$250-$275. Clean and nice, but Blue Line is meh.

It looks like a 1983 to me. Regardless, while it's in excellent condition, it's a lower mid-range model. The components are solid performers for the era but nothing special and the tubeset is carbon-manganese Tange Mangaloy 2001, as opposed to a Champion chromium-molybedenum alloy. I'd deduct about $25 from the evaluation range suggested by oddjob2.

It's got Mangaloy tubing stickers on it. Which means it's a very sturdy, heavy duty frame. Add some value if it's got "Made in Japan" stickers on it. These are the kind of bicycles that were built to last a lifetime. I call them bullet proof. In the condition shown it could go anywhere from $200 to $300 depending on finding the right buyer.

It's unique in that there won't be any other Lotuses on MN Craigslist once you post it. I think this is a pretty enough bike that buyers might choose style over substance.

I have a 48-49cm just like that my son was riding until he outgrew it. Yours is in fantastic condition. The BL stuff is underrated, in my opinion. Sure, it's not Cyclone, but does the job just as well.

The Lotus site said that the '84 Unique has the chrome fork crown which this bike has.

Very attractive bike, color and chrome socks are nice. BL components are decent and somewhat rare in my area. Seldom see that group for whatever reason. That bike, while not high end, will likely generate interest on appearance alone.

I would get old trying to get $275 for that bike in the DC Metro. Best of luck.

Beware. I had a similar era Lotus Excelle w/tange tubing. Took me FOREVER to move, and I wound up settling for $170. Houston market.

That $170 is why.
I sold a prestige for $120 in a month. And it needed tubes tires and bar tape.

People on this site are forever overvaluing.

It really depends on the person and their market. Leaving stuff undone = instant discount. Marketing skills matter too, ability to write a good ad, take great pictures, and more. I moved from a good (but not great) bike market to a slow market. Instant 30% drop in pricing. To make matters worse, I am not very conveniently located either. All of this enters into valuations.

My limited knowledge of the twin cities I believe it to be a very good market. Not Toronto or Portland, OR, but very good.

The OP's bike, the Lotus Unique, has a couple of good things going for it, mainly the very sharp/attractive and tasteful touches of chrome. Love the chrome fork crown, ditto the stays. I sold a similar, but higher end, Lotus Classique for $350 back in 2014 when I lived in a better market. It helped it was perfect and rust free, 700c wheel size, Tange Champion #1 frame, and I really didn't want to sell it.

Now OJ2 hit it out of the park pricing wise on his bike. It is very well prepared to be sure.

For some reason I can't quote any of these posts. The Classique is a different animal than what the OP posted.
C'mon, you guys know the market has gotten soft. There was a time I could turn a bike like the Unique in less than two weeks for $200. Not anymore. Hell I was a newbie flipping bikes for solid money that didn't have air in the tires for that kind of money.

Yep, the Classique is a much better bike IMHO. To the average recreational rider, a Classique looks very similar to the OP's bike. But to someone knowledgeable, much different. I couldn't get a Classique price out of the OP's bike, and the market has softened.
