Another Medici value question

I have a Medici Pro Pista track bike that I am considering selling. I no longer live near a velodrome and it needs to be ridden, not just hang around in my basement. I need some help determining a fair price for a bike of this age/quality. Here are the stats: built in the mid 80s, 59cm, Columbus Max tubing, Suntour Superbe Pro crank, Suntour cogs, 3t bar and stem, Campy headset, Sansin high flange hubs, Mavic GEL 280 tubular rims. It has been repainted a custom color and has no decals.

Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks.

it's a track frame...it's purple...take it to the right city and you can name your price.
Better get some chopped riser bars on it ASAP (and purple OURY grips).

Thanks for the input. In your opinion, will it make a difference in value if I have it repainted in a more traditional color?

NO, its a purple people eater. Now, some graphics or a set of the graphics for use by the new owner would help.
Pro-Pista for the chain stays.

Medici is long gone, so I image finding authentic graphics will be extremely difficult. Any ideas?

You can have reproduction decals made but I think the market for that is kind $$$. Especially if you're just looking to sell.

Rough estimate but I think ~1000 is a fair price depending on the market. It might be a hard sell for the frame to someone who doesn't know who Medici is or can't tell but the components look decent.

I'm confident to say that your potential buyer will love it just as it is: he will not care that it's missing the Medici decals or that the paint is not original (in fact he will love that above all else, and won't have any clue about Medici, anyway, including how to pronounce it).
He may want to change the bars and grips and may lament that it does not have a single aerospoke CF wheel, but he'll want to add all those touches himself, to make it... "unique"

Ok, I think you can stop with the fixie hipster tarck bike jokes. You made your point the first time around by not contributing to the OP's question. What possessed you to make another pointless addition?

I'm not really interested in the time/expense to replicate original graphics.

Wow, ~1000 is quite a bit more than I anticipated, but I doubt I can get that in my market. The closest velodrome is a 3 hr drive. Maybe I should just hang on to it...

I know Medici's history, but I didn't realize the allure of the brand these days.

Thanks for the useful feedback.

well...since you asked...
I'm possessed by the same compulsion that drives hipster/poseur/fashion victims to do what they do, mine is just the flip side of that coin: they crave attention and I pay attention.
Without me
they
are
invisible.

Now to get serious and "contribute to the OP's question" (I'd rather contribute an answer, if you will): apparently, Flippenstein, the whole track-bike-as-fashion-accessory-trend has eluded you...that's wonderful and it's fantastic. If you really think these are meant to be ridden on a velodrome's track you have come to the right Bike Forums sub-group: Classic and Vintage! The world, meanwhile, has gone in a different direction, and you may find that there is a tremendous interest in your Medici Pro Pista for use as an urban (or suburban) road bike. That market is HUGE...those buyers have money...$1000 may be high in your location, but it is not high in nearly any major metropolitan center with a community college. Ask for more. $1200. but be prepared for a lot of strange questions.

Great feedback 'unworthy', thanks.

Well yes, I guess for the past twenty-odd years of riding I was under the illusion that a track bike is meant to be ridden on the track. At least, this one has only seen the track, (er...well and rollers too). But I don't mind selling to an urban fixie hipster that has money.

Thanks for helping calibrate where I should start my pricing. I was originally thinking much lower. Thanks for the education.

For several years I've wanted to produce custom graphics (tastefully rebellious) for the bike, but have never gotten around to it. Do you think it would detract or add to the value (assuming it appeals to the urban hipster fixies)?

Oh, and I will give you one guess as to what components where on the bike when I bought it. I sold them several years ago because finding cogs was so difficult (that's a hint).

And not that will increase value or anything, but the bike has a unique history...which has sentimental value to me at least.

not sure where your from but unworthy is right about everything. the whole fixie trend has gone insane and a lot of people just jump on the opportunity to get one. but if you do post it for $1000 or more i think it'll attract people who actually know more about medici or even the components on the bicycle. these days.. whatever has a horizontal drop.. they immediately think track/fixie.. they dont know about the geometry..

sorry for blabbing on... i live in los angeles and its like a gay parade with these multicolored fixies on the road.. insane!

+1.

Worth the 3 hour drive to offer it for sale at the drome so it can be used as intended. You should check
the velodromes website to see if they have classifieds.
My pogliaghi has seen the street 2 or 3 times but that was right after putting it together just to
do some tune ups. Luckily I live about 5 miles from a velodrome.

Personally? I'd keep it, especially if it has some history with you (that you should relate here).
Value, in this market from $750 to $1000, but again thats velodrome use and not fixie/urban warrior mode.
