Pinarello Treviso buy.

I bought a pinarello treviso from a second hand store yesterday because i was in need of a bike due to my raleigh sports breaking. It sounded like a dream at 80 bucks, so after i came to, i bought it. FAST. I has all Campagnolo Super Record. Missing back brake and shimano pedals replaced the originals. Mavic g 40 rims.57 cm, i believe. its a candy blue color.

I was wondering how much it is worth, A ,

and B, is it is all chrome underneath (for my wanting to have an all chrome bike). Will post pics tomorrow.

you need to post in the apprasial forums for a value but I am sure you got a deal. did you buy it to flip or ride?

as for the chrome.. is any part of the bike chrome? some bike companies used to chrome bikes both to protect them against rust and it was thought that the electro-chemical process made the frame stiffer. however this chrome plating is left rough so the primer and paint adheres to it. if you strip the paint it will never be shinny and will need constant care to keep from corroding.

Great deal. BG is right, and given Pinarello's record of making fine bikes with crappy finishing, I'd stick to just the chrome plated parts you see, go for touchup on the rest, buy some decals if warranted. As far as stripping it...."do you feel lucky?"

I was watching 3 Treviso auctions last week and they all ended north of $500. I think that it is chrome underneath but it might depend on what year yours was made.

yup, chrome underneath. just ride it, you'll lose the paint soon enough.

It will all fall off in fear once the bike sees it's first mild bump in the pavement. Known in the trade as "quick release" paint.

That sounds just like my Pinarello Record. It is also that blue color and has the chrome poking out from the peeling paint. I am outfitting it with Super Record and will just ride it as is. Does it look like these, but in blue?
http://bulgier.net/pics/bike/Catalogs/pinarello85/9.jpg It rides great, doesn't it?

almost, except only one side of the back triangle is chromed. and yes it rides like a dream. i took it out for its maiden voyage this morning, and I WAS SURPRISED AT HOW WELL IT RODE. i have a 65 paramount that doesnt even come close.

thompsonjeff 02-10-10 02:06 AM

well, the chainring, seat post, cinelli stem all have pinarello etched into them if that gives any clue to which year it was made jet sanchez.

thompsonjeff 02-10-10 02:08 AM

the front fork has some paint chipped away showing a VERY SHINY, what i believe to be, chrome. so does the back triangle.

where can i buy replacement decals, robbietunes? i know that vinyl replacements are better. is there anywhere i can find columbus replacements that look like the ones on my bike? and im definitely trying to ride it. thanks.

due to advancements in tubing, frame geomentry, and components I am sure it rides better than your 65 paramount (not that a 65 paramount is a bad bike) but you are kind of compairing a '65 mustang to late '80 alfa romeo, both are great cars but philosophy of how they ride and handle is completely different.

OH we have not seen pics of this great find just yet.

Wow, you REALLY scored; Cinelli pantograped Pinarello parts go for mucho dineros on eBay. Let's see some pics, the bike sounds gorgeous.

Pinarello decals are pretty easy to come by but some of the ones on eBay are crappy and you have to be picky. A lot of us forum members have used Cyclomondo's decals for our refurbishes, here is a link to his store--- http://stores.ebay.com/Cyclomondo ---he doesn't have any Pinarello decals listed currently but I am sure he can set you up if you email him.

thompsonjeff 02-11-10 04:39 AM

could he make a custom set?
