What do you all think? Is 50 bucks too much for this Fuji Supreme.









It needs cleaned and serviced, tires are flat, fenders are shot, but the BB and hubs sound decent. Headset tight, Suntour FD / RD, Dia Compe brakes (need pads), rims fairly true no broken spokes, saddle is in good shape. No frozen cables. FD looks a bit bent or just way out of adjustment but I couldnt get a good close pic. Val LIte frame looks straight.

I'm thinking it might be fun to fix it up or do a fixie with it.

Any thoughts?

If it was lightly used...not a heavily ridden commuter...I'd buy it in a NY second. It is my size frame! Most likely an '82. Fuji made a great riding bike back then! Ukai alloy rims, Avocet saddle, bar end shifters, fenders, rack, pump! Nice color & somebody took some interest in setting that one up. If it is in good condition overall...looks great in the pictures...tires & tubes & brake pads are not a big deal and can be bought for $20 + S&H at Niagara Cycle Works...offer $40 like you're not too bright & be ready to fork over the full $50 cash in a flash! The fenders (shot?) are worth $35 new. Darn that looks like a good deal...hey, I'm not jealous...plenty of rusty $50 Huffys for sale up here to keep me occupied. Let us know more!!!

Clean it, fix the tires, tubes & brake pads and turn it here in Portland for $200-$250, as the Spring wakes up. People are batty for bikes out here for a during the springtime!

I went back over to the Goodwill store and got the Fuji. Funny, when I went to check out the girl asked "are you over 55?" I said "well yes I am". She says "today is senior discount day, so I got a discount.

LOL, I guess getting older does have it's advantages. The frame has only about a 1/2 inch standover for my height but I think I can deal with it. The rear hub needs work which is to be expected on a bike this old. The bearings sound pretty dry and some vibration going on back there. BTW that is a zfal pump on the bike. I'll post up some more info later.

It actually looks pretty good. The fenders are Bluemels Club Specials and are in rough shape on the ends with the front mudguard being long gone and the fender cracked there. I think I can cut the front down a bit and save it. The rear is a bit wonky and might just need to be adjusted. No cracks by chainstay clips so that's good.

Also has a Huret Multito on the front wheel but I think the band is toast. I used to repair vcr's and I think have a drive O-ring that will fit. Looks old school as hell and that's cool.

Zfal pump pushes air but don't know if the seals will hold under pressure. It's in VERY good shape. I think Big Chainring is right and it has a TA cage on it.

Not sure what model Jim Blackburn rack is on it but it's solid and seems bulletproof.

Front rim is a stock UKAI alloy 27 x 1 1/4 fairly true no broken or major bent spokes. Rear rim is appears to be a period correct 27" x 1 1/4" /6LA 36h Weinmann Alloy that's in pretty good shape but there's vibration coming from the hub and cassette so I need to investigate that first before deciding where to go with it. If it's shot, I'll probably do a fixie on it.

Haven't checked the seatpost or stem but they don't appear to be stuck.

Sugino cranck set and BB fairly quiet but need serviced. FD looks like a suntour compe V branded for Fuji. It's slugish and needs cleaned badly with new cables and housing. Need this done to evaluate if it's still good. RD is a Suntour 7 GT and also needs work too. If the rear hub and cassette can be serviced I might try to service the FD/RD or change em out. If not I'm still thinkin fixie. Chain looks stretched a bit.

Brakes seem to be decent, levers good, cables good, pads dried out, bar shifters good.

All in all looks to be a fun old bike to fix up and restore.

Now just have to get it cleaned up before taking it apart. Any thoughts on a good thorough way to clean it up before tearing it down? I have a small home use pressure washer I could use. Not concerned with water getting in the driveline parts as I have to probably rebuild them anyway. Don't want to damage the decals though as they are in good shape.

Spray it with Simple Green, Fantastic, Awesome or some other similar type of cleaner & then rinse it off with a garden hose. You can use an old tooth brush to scrub the rear gear cluster, deraileurs, etc. Regreasing the hubs, etc. is annual maintenance for alot of riders...so it is not a big deal, but is good to do regardless of how dry they are.

Bluemels are nice fenders ... not cheap ... worth saving .... be careful with them.

Bike is nicely set up as a "credit card" touring bike. Also great for commuting. It is very much in style right now. Somebody really took an interest in that bike, and you were fortunate enough to come across it at G.W. You might want to add a handlebar bag.

Should be a very enjoyable bike to ride.

Simple green is good stuff and I have the brushes and stuff to clean the rear cogs. I'm going to do a basic cleanup this weekend and start taking it apart and really checking, cleaning, and lubing. I'm going to strip it completely down to the bare frame and go through it till it's as good as can be. I agree than someone took an interest in the Fuji and I want to make sure I do right and get it spiffed up and road worthy again. It feels solid and is begging to be on the road again

Still hard to believe it was at GW. Funny thing is that I'll bet I've been in there maybe two times in 10 years. Yesterday I was driving by there and suddenly thought I wonder if they have any bikes in there right now, and there it was. Maybe it's fate!

I found an '82 Fuji Supreme at a Goodwill store couple of months ago with stem mounted shifters. I think your bar end shifters may be an upgrade.

I think you are right. All the pics I've seen of this model bike have stem mounted shifters. The bar end shifters are Suntour brand and seem to work with no binding.

neat bike and that stem is so homely i would have had to pull it out and lay it aside before even taking the bike home.

About the handlebar stem, make sure it is dropped down to the "maximum height line" for safety. Should give you a nice comfortable riding position. I am sure it is not original, and was installed for a purpose. Give it a try.

The stem is set up where the "max height" mark is just slightly above the top of the headset, so technically it's too high. I think it was set that way to get a bit more upright riding position which makes sense if the previous rider was using it for commuting or a tall rider on a small frame.

Just got mine a few weeks ago and this is the first bike I've owned that did NOT have a RD hanger. The "bolt-on" RD made me think this bike could easily become a single speed conversion. S/N on mine is SF247890, same maroon color, maybe even the same size. It's too small for me but might be made to fit with long stem and setback seatpost.
