I know little to none about vintage roadbikes. I came across this in my sisters basement and planed to convert it to a single speed/ fixed gear. I have become aware by posting in the fixed gear section that this cinelli may be something special. Obviously this bike needs reiteration. I have no idea on the year but I believe the model is a "Mod-B" or model B. I can provide more detailed pictures if needed. I really want this too go to someone who would fully appreciate it and restore it to what was meant to be. I have all parts of the bike including the saddle which i would probably keep (brooks b17 narrow champion) Thank you.

You are right to assume it is valuable. My best advice is to carefully photograph everything you think belongs with the bike and allow some experts to fill you in on what should be there and what shouldn't. For example, I do not believe the brake levers are original. Then you can post it on ebay with the info you have and a link to the thread. I suggest you start a thread outside the market place to determine year etc.... Value is difficult without seeing the wheels and derailleurs you might have. I would suggest that if the wheels and other not pictured parts are original and the bike is assembled properly and well photographed (i don't mean tuned and running just assembled and complete looking) you might get north of $1000 on ebay.

If there is a local shop in town that you can TRUST - and I do mean that seriously - see if they can pull the seatpost out. Shouldn't be much of an issue, really, but don't start trying to jury-rig it out. If you can loosen the binder and allow the post to drop out of the frame by simply turning it upside down, do so.

Closer to $2,000 + if you have all the parts (include the saddle!). Don't clean it or put it together but please photograph it all very well. There is a FD like that on (from what I can tell from your pics) EBAY right now that is at $670 and it hasn't met reserve yet.

So what are the guesses as to age? 'Open C' 1010 dropouts spell either 50's or early 60's right? Is that a Magistroni slotted spider crank? That would place it 50's right? Just for the record, if the OP was learned in the proper polishing techniques, I would not see any reason not to polish the frame and remove the rust. It's only the issue of technique and using the proper products that presents a potential issue.

I'd also put that Campag GS RD back on the frame for now too; one runs the risk of losing the top pivot bolt having it hang around like that.

Hey, give a nice nod to whomever on fixed gear/single speed that told you it was worth some bucks, maybe hold off on the conversion. That doesn't happen that often.

The bike can be pretty amazing, and could bring you the dough to get a custom singles speed bike, even a Ti frame if you want one.

Yes, "IF". A recent new forum member sanded the paint off the BB shell of his '51 Claud Butler to see the serial#. He is looking for a value, the people who would pay top dollar would pay the same cleaned/polished or not. If he is going to keep it, ask a lot of questions and keep the sandpaper locked up.

I PM'ed him that it might be worth a lot of money, don't know if he read it. The FG/SS guys were trying their best to buy it from him. I also advised to leave it alone.

Thank you all. I realize it is worth a lot of money. I have all the original parts to my knowledge excluding the brake levers ( what I think to be newer wineman's ). I probably won't polish or anything just to leave that to the person who will be purchasing the bike. I'm going to leave all the parts off because I think it will be easier to ship. Would ebay be my best bet on selling this? I've already gotten 4 or 5 people interested on here but know i can't sell it here without an upgraded membership (found out the hard way). I really don't want to risk messing anything up, I want this to be as nice as possible for the person who will be purchasing it from me, they will probably have a lot more knowledge on bike restoration than i do. I definitely will join that email list to get more information.

Take a look at this thread if you want to see what a cleaned up version looks like. iab is probably the most knowledgeable member here when it comes to Cinellis of that vintage. You might want to send him a pm with any questions that you might have. FYI, I believe that his has Simplex cranks, Balilla brakes, a Cyclo FD, and a Campy Gransport RD. His is from the late 50s, and I'd guess that yours is late 50s (at the latest) as well (same "ears" on the chromed head tube lugs).

Ok - first things first, search this entire forum for methods of packing a bike, and also the disaster threads of improperly packed bikes. You'll get a lot of good information on proper packing in there, starting with Rule #1: Never trust a bike shop to pack right, especially when they say they're professionals at it.

Looks like someone already got to the G.S. RD and lost the bolts off of it.

FWIW, the Zeus "Criterium" pivot bolts are dead-ringers for the Gran Sport:



Beat up Criterium derailleurs turn up on eBay fairly frequently and are usually quite affordable for scavenging parts like this.

The Crit seems to have the same geometry as the first-gen Campag Record - are the lower pivot components compatible with the Record? I've got a Record here short of everything but the parallelogram and the spring.

Jon, even that saddle --1950's Brooks B17-- is a collector's item. You can get more for it on ebay than you'd spend on a new one. I've been looking for one for a while now....

Yes, they're fully interchangeable with Campagnolo.

I still have all bolts. The saddle will be for sale with the bike. If I reassemble lightly clean ( being extremely careful) replace small necessary parts with of that era parts, put a new chain and tires on and include all original parts should I be able to get 1500 for this?

Don't do anything.

Honestly, the people that want and will pay for this bike want it exactly like this, a new chain and tires will de-value it unless you have NOS period parts.
